HEADLIGHT AIMING

HEADLIGHT AIMING
2007 Nissan Maxima SE
I know bumper has to be removed for bulb replacement. And I know you can aim the lights by turning the philips screw behind the headlight. BUT its a pain in the ***. You know taking headlight off, turning the screw, putting headlight back on, etc, etc. Is there a different way? Maybe ripping off the wheel wells. Anybody know if the aim screw is visible from back there? Help me out guys.
THANKS!!!

Well, I have an '04, pretty sure it's the same, Driver side remove the airbox and you have access. I have a Fujita so I don't have to remove anything there. Passenger side twist the winshield washer container tube(refill) counter clockwise, comes out. You ave access right there, can use a wrench.

The adjusting bolts are right there in the open. That being said, you might have to purchase some fancy extensions for a ratchet wrench and possibly take out the air box and remove the stout for the windshield washer if you need more room to work.
There is no mention in the SM of dropping the bumper and hauling the lights out. That is an old wives tale.

you don't need to take anything out. just a long philips screwdriver. its a bit difficult to explain but i will try to the best of my abilities. locate the headlight adjustment. you will notice there is a little gear behind the 10mm adjusting bolt. just stick the screw driver into the gear and you can spin the gear clockwise or counterclockwise to lower or raise the adjustments.

here's a 350z DIY guide. its basically the same set up. use the pictures to locate and identify the gear to turn with the philips screwdriver.

I've adjusted the height on mine just fine (it's an '04). It's the side to side adjustments that's a real b*tch as they're WAY up top on the headlight assembly and are surrounded by a plastic shroud. Haven't figured out an easy way to aim them...Going to remove the plastic shroud from the wheelwell this weekend and give it a shot.

I recently DID change the horizontal aiming of my headlights because they were pointed a little more than to the left...dang near right into oncoming traffic!
Anyway, if you examine the back of the headlamp assembly carefully, you'll see a set of screws, the vertical adjustment is very obvious. It's hard to describe where the horizontal is...and it's not even listed in any manual that I've found.
With the headlight installed (using right side as example), look at the back where the low-beam assembly is. you can see the vertical adjustment to the left, but the horizontal is on the lower right side (lower than the low-beam assembly), closest to the fender. It's covered by a black plastic cap (obviously to make spotting it that much easier in the evening hours ...thanks Nissan). The cap was a real b**ch to get off, but once it's off you can adjust the beams left/right.
If I can get some pictures I'll certainly try. Not sure where my camera is at the moment though.
