Their faces are TOTAL disbelief. The car looks kind of stock and yet I was one of maybe 7 or 8 drivers out of 70+ who got in the 1:40s which was rarified air.

Acura RSX kicked ***. The drivers ahead of me were all fabulous drivers in very fast cars with great tires. I also beat every Miata here, including some REALLY well-prepped cars, all Mini Coopers, and a very very well-prepped MazdaSpeed3. They played with me on my turf and paid the price by going home empty handed

Im back from an eventful afternoon. A BMW rolled and smooshed its top. Several cars including the Viper spun out. In the end, I got fastest time of the afternoon and about 5th top time of day, and also a win in the very fast California Street Modified class, where almost anything goes. I came within a few seconds of the Evo. AN Sti and an Acura beat me too. So did a CLK500. Shshshshsh. He was a fabulous driver. But I beat Corvettes, the Viper, Civics, Mustang, Integras, Miatas, etc. etc.
I dont think 95% of u all realize what an amazing car we have. Most run it 1320 feet, or if ur like Lightonthehill, u drive it with underinflated tires and putz down the street. This car, when modified some, performs like a world class automobile. Its brakes pulled my teeth from my mouth. The power was just awesome. It turns like no other. And if u f**k up, it will get you out of your mess looking pretty. It handles so well, that it is beyond my ability as a driver. I think a great driver could beat just about anyone out here. Lone Pine tests a cars power, brakes, handling, steering, and your nerves. The Maxima does it all so amazingly well, that i wish I could convey how wonderful it is to drive.
I told the former charman of this event, Craig Angel, that i hoped to get top time of day today before he died last year. He said "In a MAXIMA?" I said yes. Well, Craig I didnt get ttod, but i won California Street Mod and got one of the fastest times of the day out of over 70 cars. Not bad for a Nissan, eh?

I am curious too about what kind of Acura beat you out, NSX?
If not the California Street Modified class then what class were the cars that beat you in? Or perhaps I should say why couldn't they be in that class?
Nice pic, I really like the CF cover for your filter but I notice you never did replace the foam with rubber on the oem intake. But I like the way you cut it open.

Im home and here are the results of Sundays driving. I won my class, beating out a 350Z and other cars. I was again one of the fastest cars out there, about 5th or 6th top time of day. So two first place trophies. The top time of day was an Evo 8 RS. The Acura was an RSX Type R and he is a fantastic driver. I beat that MAzdaspeed 3 again. He said he was boosted to 350 hp to the wheels. The guys in front of me overall are all fabulous drivers. Whats odd is that the fastest drivers were in stock cars, with minor mods and really good tires. Puzzling. Great weekend.
The BMW that rolled over was totally messed up and is junk. The guy said it was his fault. Stuff can happen.
Anyhow, Im home safe with two trophies and a car that is just amazing to drive. I may start to compete in roadraces with it. We will see.

The evo x was faster than me, but not the speed3. I drive ok, but the Maxima can be driven a LOT harder. I tried to drive very precisely but fast and it shows in that I did not hit any cones the first day and 95% of everyone hit at least one cone or DNFd. If I raced more often, I would have done a lot better. Also, they slowed the course down a lot which was a disadvantage to the Maxima.

Deuski!!? The sti that beat you..... Was that the new sti the hatchback? Or was it an older one?
For a non-turbo car at that alttitude!!! Bro u did epic. U went in with a huge disadvantage not having a coMpressor to jam air into the motor. With even a supercharger you would have walked those guys.

Thanks Kamski! Yes it was the new Sti hatchback. Again, I think if I raced more often, I think I would have closed the gap, if not beat them. The last time I competed was 2 years ago.

By the way, when the fuel reached about 1/4 tank, the car started to hesitate probably due to fuel slosh in the tank. I wonder if there is a fix for that since Ill have to run about 5 extra gallons of fuel when Im competing. Five gallons is about 40 lbs extra of fuel that Id rather do without. I read on the Altima forum that they have the same problem too.

I kinda like the interior and exterior stripped as it gives it a more purposeful look. Its also very fast due to the lightweight. I did put the passenger seat in so my girlfriend have ride with me. Otherwise, Id just leave it as a 1 seater.

Guess no one has input regarding fuel starvation. I figure I have taken the Maxima to the limits of its handling which is probably unusual.
I put my front lip and carbon fiber hood back on. Sorry Justin. Also, my bigger 28 lbs battery is back in. Hard to believe but I have about 80 lbs back on the car, but still not rear seat or carpet. I really like my fiberglass seat too, but I iamgine Ill change it back to my recaro at some point.

I like the fact that it is a daily driver as well as a competitive time trial car. The problem is that its not competitive for local, slow-speed autocrosses. I may drive the car on open track days on road courses like Buttonwillow, Laguna Seca, Willow Springs, and other local tracks, like my buddy Kamski does. It is expensive to race since tires and brakes get worn out quickly, so its a matter of budget as well.

Is this the track Zs or street driven cars that are also used for the track. Ill have to nose around the G/Z forums and see what they are doing. I cant seem to find the Altima forum where I read of them having fuel starvation problems.

My times were around 148 seconds. I figrue there has to be a second or two without 40 lbs of fuel sloshing around. I think the most improvement would be driver skill improvement and consistently competing in order to take advantage of the cars abilities. With smaller lighter rims and coilovers, the car can be quite a bit better as I figiure thats about 70-80 pounds of weight plus less fuel of about 40 pounds for an additional 120 less pounds of weight than I raced with. I imagine the car would be near 3,000 pounds at that point.
