Painting the faux-suede door panels..

Anyone do this? I really wanna paint my whole interior soon, and I was wondering if anyone else has any experience in painting the suede-like fabric in the door panels, and around the dash(near the windshield)

This link shows how easy it is to paint suede and suede-like materials with special fabric paint: http://www.craftygal.com/archives/sp...e_spring04.htm so I'm assuming I shouldn't have any problems.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Mike

thats not a bad idea, but if you paint those I guess you could paint the suede like seats too, (if you dont have leather) I mean the fabric its very similar. Let us know if you try it and how it comes out.

Damn, Nice! I didn't see him doing anything with the suede-however I'm already 100% convinced that I can do it. Im going with red suede and black leather/vinyl-Just like the custom leather seats im getting will look. My whole car is black with red calipers so I hope to have a nice looking red and black look throughout the car. I'll keep updates on how it goes! I'm redoing the wheels and calipers this weekend so I hope to do the interior next weekend. I found out its real easy to do the headliner too, so this should be fun.

im sure it'd look great at first.

i just dont see it lasting.

i did some stuff in the celica i had and it ended up peeling off after a while. i did end up using some vinyl dye made by SEM on my dash. and that did work. never faded or peeled

check out the **update link 2** on the first page of the link I posted. he painted the seats, and in the altima, the edges of the seats are that faux suede and he said it turned out good. He said texture wise it felt a little different, but wasn't stiff. just different

Oh wow, your right-Thanks! I bet with a primer first on the vinyl it shouldn't peel. I'll probably do a very light sand and clean everything with rubbing alcohol before the primer.

I heard my grandma painted her living room carpet when I was very young, never saw it so its somewhat of a myth. I personally wouldnt have the guts.

what i did for my dash was, well one removed it, and then used a red scotch-brite pad, and also used some stuff called scuff-n-clean. think of it like Gojo, but for sanding. and scrubbed the hell out of the dash, and cleaned it real well and hosed it off. and then sprayed that SEM vinyl dye on.

Yeah, the plastic pieces and the dash look awesome, but the rear deck and rear seats look like complete ****!

I did the same thing to my headliner/visors and it looks great....but I would never spray my seats with it....

I bet it does with leather because everything looked good except the cloth seats he painted in the rear. Its too hard to get it even and it wears off without much contact when you paint actual fabric like cloth seats.
