CEL codes.....need help with what they mean!!!
Ok my service engine light came on and I bought it to get checked and the codes thats I got are P0051 and P1168.Can someone assist me with what they mean and suggest I should do to fix it.Thanks
Well if you bought something to read the codes it should come with a book to tell you what they are. Also autozone will read and tell you what the codes mean. Another option is try a google search and see what you come up with. You dont sya what year your car is but a quick google came up with this P1168 (A/F Sensor Closed Loop Control) for a 2004

p0051= HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 2, Sensor 1) for all other codes just type in here under OBD2 deffinitions http://www.equus.com/
if you are not mechanically inclined take the car to Midas and have them replace it. Their prices for 02 sensors are only a couple dollars more than what you would pay for them at like checkers and their service is guarenteed and prices are reasonable. If you are mechanically inclined check the service manual which you can get at www.nissanhelp.com and go through the troubleshooting for these codes. After you have looked at the service manual and if you have questions then don't hesitate to ask.
Ok so if you want to tackle this thing on your own than you might want to register for free with http://forums.maxima.org/6th-generat...nissanhelp.com, log in and go to "Knowledgebase>ServiceManuals>Maxima>2004" this manual works for all 6th gens except 07 and 08. If you have a 07/08 might want to try this anyways unless you have a service manual for those years. Either way download the "EC" Engine control manual. go to page EC-155 and start there. The code you gave us was P0051 which is a generic code for troubleshooting. The code P0057 should be followed but everything should be applied to sensor 1 on that bank vice sensor 2. After looking at the troubleshooting tips I would check the connector to that sensor and make sure there is no corrosion, if there is clean it up. If the connector is good and the wire is good, going to and from the connector, than I would take it to a professional to get it fixed. Nissan techs have the equipment to tell you exactly what the problem is. 120 for diagnostic and piece of mind. With a Consult-II they can pinpoint what part needs replaced. Once you find out let us know and it might be an easy fix or might be hard. ECM controls the heater by using different inputs from the Camshaft Position Sensor, Coolant temp, and MAF sensor. The two sensors are easy to replace. The coolant temp can be affected by many things but you will see the temp when the engine warms up. If it is where is should be than you are ok. So the other two sensors could be the issue as well as the 02 sensor. So now you have three sensors and the wiring and the ECU to troubleshoot.
wow man thanks alot....you really helped me out and ive noticed that my outside temp always says negative and my heater only works at 90 degress and ac works at 60.Im gonne bring it to a shop to get fixed. Thanks alot bro
So I would like to bounce off you fellow 6th gens how bad I probably messed mine up....
So I to prepare my car for a road trip, I did the sea foam to the intake manifold, oil and gas tank, performed an oil change and I also sprayed throttle body cleaner. An issue with the throttle body cleaner was that the butterfly valve wouldn't open when stepping on the gas. I used the plastic end of a screwdriver to hold it open while spraying.
4 days into the trip, the CEL came on. The code was about high revolution. After clearing it, it was all good.
That was 2 weeks ago. Today, the temperature read -22 and the CEL came back. I turned off the car and waited 15 minutes. When I turn the car back on, it says i have an empty tank with the low fuel light on, the CEL on and the AC on @ 75 degrees half-full blast. This code, P0463 (pd) read : fuel tank level. sensor circuit high input. Also, when I take the key out, the AC lights are still on.
I drove 10 minutes to my house where I put the stock airbox back on and disconnected the battery for 20 minutes. Car drove fine with no problems for 5 minutes until the door ajar icon was blinking but the info screen did not detect it. It went away on its own after another 5 minutes. Now everything seems back to normal. WTF?
1 -Were sensors or anything electrical tampered?
2 - If I clear the codes, why do they come back?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

At a stop sign, my car would not accelerate. The engine was revving but the car was stationary. I look down and my gauges aren't working properly: 1) fuel tank reads empty 2) thermostat reads cold 3) odometer and speedometer are "dead"; 4) a/c is inoperable 5) car will not shift gears.
i had to move my car to the side of the road by removing the shift lock.
please help.

stop disconnecting the battery and get a code reader up to it. Pull the codes and check the list. There are a whole bag full of items that could be wrong. I am willing to bet the gas cap wasn't tightened completely, and you sprayed a connector or something. Can't really help without narrowing things down.

CEL code help
Hey guys,
I've had my MAX since 05, it's and 04, 84,000 miles. It gets regular oil changes and air filters. I'm good to it, but it does have original plugs. Just recently the CEL came on and I got the code P0174 which is supposidly the lean bank 2 code. I sprayed carb cleaner and there seems to be no vac leaks. I also checked and cleaned the maf sensor. I erased the code and for the last week it hasn't come back on. But I have noticed during idle at stop signs and lights, there is a little fluxuation in the idle that I can feel in my feet. The car still runs fine and no evidence of loss of power. So what can that be? Also, should I be looking to change the plugs? I don't mind doing the work. Do I just need to order an intake gasket and OEM plugs? Also, I've read a ton of posts on the seafoam and I'm very tempeted to try it. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance, this forum kicks Donkey!

2004 Maxima with P0021
I am unable to start a new thread so I will ask here. I have a 2004 maxima with the SES light on and the code is P0021, I changed the intake valve solenoid on the front of the motor but the light will come back on, the car runs fine the oil has been changed every 3000 miles. Any help would be appreciated.
P0021 - IVT Control (Bank 2)
Call the dealer ask them to tell you which banks is near the radiator and which is near the firewall. (I don't know) You may still need to change out the other one too. If the guy is cool, maybe he can tell you exaclty what that code means.
