During a rain storm at night I backed my car into a guide wire to a telephone pole and ripped off one of my rear mud guards. I took the other one off and it looks fine now, but it also bent that small guard in front of the rear tire. What is that piece there for anyway? I think I will just take those two off as well if they don't have a major purpose.

mud flaps that's it. keeps rocks and mud off the cars behind you. the one up front keeps things from the road that get kicked up from the front tires from getting in the rear wheel wells.

 

As long as it didn't rupture your blinker fluid line or damage the muffler bearings you should be ok...

I think you may have misunderstood me. There is a small plastic piece that hangs down in front of each of the rear tires. I have no clue what this is for.

 

Take a picture then, easiest way to try and understand what you're talking about.

I don't think you need it. It's held by two screws and looks like it's a piece by itself. My guess is it works sort of like a splash guard..but as you can see it doesn't work that well on my car, cause look at how much splash there is

 

i think they are apart of the air brake system....

 

don't forget about the rear manifold wires, because that sits right next to the blinker fluid line. When one gets damaged usually it gets both.... So double check that

On another note. Take it off, drive at highway speeds. if you don't think you notice a difference you don't need it?

LOL oh you mean the splash guards? Yeah don't press or bend too hard!!! It might breaks!!! Mine fell off and got ran over! I heard it on the highway and didn't know what it was till I got to work then realized I ran over my own splash guard.
