2008 rear bumper on 07

I've noticed on what would appear to be 2008 Maxima's is a black plastic strip on the bumper above the tailpipes. Runs the full length, at least 3-4 feet. Looks nice. I am getting ready to have my existing bumper repaired, but thought it might be better to just replace it with this one.

Is this black strip on all SE and SL models, and is it an 08 exclusive? Most important, will it fit perfectly on an 07 rearend? And when you order it, does it come as part of the assembly, or is it a secondary piece?

Are the sonar sensors part of the bumper when you order one, or do you have to remove the existing ones and replace?

And what's a typical price expectation?

You can see it in this picture:

It comes as one whole piece. I always thought that all 07' -'08 had this style though??? The sonar is optional and many (including myself) opt to not get the sonar. Expect to pay for a brand new one $350 -$400 at least. Not cheap, but it does change the look nicely!

I have an 07 SE. The black strip you speak of is on mine. I cant remember ever seeing an 07-08 without it.

A new bumper does not come with the sonar sensors. Gotta take them off the original one.

The rear bumper valance is standard equipment on all 2007-2008 Maxima SE models. It is not even an option on the SL models. The backup sonars are part of an option, so they would not be included if you purchase a new bumper. Ebay or the classified section are probably the cheapest places to find a bumper.

I called two different Nissan dealer part's departments today. First guy right off told me that this black strip was an aftermarket add-on. It took some effort to even get him into the computer to look it up. He confirmed for me that there was only one bumper cover part....so I just moved on to a second part's dealer. Second guy confirmed that there are two bumpers, one with the sonar sensor holes, one without. But nothing different, or added to them.

So the paint process was different on some of these in the factory I guess. Funny thing is, of all the 6.5 gen's I've ever seen, I seem more with the paint going all the way down then I do with this lip. Very interesting that you've seen it the other way round.

If anyone else has any other insight, otherwise I'll be getting the new bumper painted only part way...

I could swear I've seen SL's with the strip, but I can't be 100% sure...I even think I've seen 6.5 SE's painted all the way down...

I also have an 07 SE that has the Black strip, not as noticable on mine because my car is black, but I have seen many SL's with the Black Strip also. I also have a co-worker who has a Frost White 07 SE that is painted white all the way down from the factory.

I'm pretty sure 07/08 SE models have it, SL models are painted to match the body.

I have an 08 SL, and you can see it's color-matched in my sig (hard to tell, but it's the exact same color as the car - the strip on the SE looks like flat black).

You can always paint yours, or I think blue-bat makes an overlay.

You got it. Some SL models have it painted with those ugly sonars.

My '07 SE has a black strip, but the Sat is black and those "ugly" sonar bullets are black to match the paint.
