Over 100k and never had an issue

I'm starting this thread becasue i'm considering trading the max soon not because of any problems but because of this never ending issue with the 6th gen tranny and timing chain failure. So I want to know how many people are well over 100k and never had an issue with the timing chain or tranny. And also should I go with another maxima?

Thank you for your Input in advance

This is just my 2 cents. My car is a 06 Maxima 45k miles currently. I have more problems in just over a year with my 06 Max than all of my other Nissan's combined. I have had 7 Nissans. Just had the timing chains replaced. No problems with the Tranny yet. Knock on wood. I have a popping noise in the front right side that the dealer cannot identify. Only suggestion is to replace both shocks and struts but no guarantee it would fix it. Have a whistling noise when driving they also can't identify. Have had the tires balanced and rotated a couple times and alignment done still have the same problem. And again the dealership has no idea.

I find it all too much of coincidence that when they started building the Maximas and other Nissans in Tennessee as opposed to Japan that all these problems started happening. 2004 is the first year Maxima that was built in America.

Long story short when my powertrain warranty is up I will be getting rid of my max for sure. I love Nissans but again this car has given me more problems in a year than all my other Nissans combined. Luckily the Infinitis are still built in Japan.

I have 58000 miles on an 05 and had to have a tranny replaced at 53000 per the dealer under warranty and I just had a wheel bearing replaced other than that nothing yet however I will most likely get rid of mine after the extended warranty is out at 75k. I love the car it drives great but it scares me not to have a warranty with this car!!

I have to agree with you on that one.... Unfortunately I found this site AFTER purchasing a 2006 (with 90,000+) miles on it. I owned a '95 maxima before and had NO issues whasoever, aside from minor things brakes, oil changes etc... By the time I got rid of it, it had 228,000 miles on it and was still truckin! So based off that, I automatically went with another maxima and didn't bother to research what owners were saying, I just assumed it was a nissan and that meant reliability. Knock on wood ,the only thing I had to worry about was the precat issue, and I'm at 108,000 now. I pray that by 2006, Nissan realized what went wrong with the 04/05 models and corrected it! I hate to say it, but I wish they kept production over in Japan. I'm babying this car as much as I can, hopefully it'll last for a couple more years, then I MIGHT be looking at Infinti (unless they move operations to TN.!)

I might be shooting myself in the foot here... but I have over 115k on my '04SE and the only thing I've had repaired was the timing chain - and that was at 109k.

I hit 100k without any issue. I had to replace the rack at 116k. Nismo is just made that good! Not a leak, nothing.

I'm not at 100k yet; but i have 89k on an 06 without any issues at all. I have only done routine maintenance. We will see how it goes. I consider myself fortunate after hearing some of the stories about issues with these cars.

After my CV boot issue, and the dealer (new service guys... none of the "old crew" is there anymore) trying to sell me OEM rotors (had RTP slotted) when my brakes needed replacing for another $600+ labor, I decided it was time to say goodbye. It was my 4th Maxima, and the only one which I installed more than an intake on. I enjoyed the car, but the problems ever since they started making them here in the States... meh. It was time.

I just wasn't looking forward to the inevitable problems that were going to come my way.

I bought my 6th gen at 68,000 miles and currently am on my third transmission, one at 72,000 and one at 80,000, and my timing chain tensioners are about to go. I currently have just under 83,000 miles on the car. After the timing chain tensioners are done Ill have roughly $9500 spent in repairs in the year and a half I've owned it. I'll probably keep my car until my 2 years is left on my powertrain warranty is up then I'll dump it. Too many expansive issues in such a short amount of time has really turned me off to nissans.

Traded my 06 in at 65k, money wise it worked out for me to buy the 09, I maintained it by the book, no problems, ran as good as new, wish I could have kept it but as a former tech, my recommendation is change the oil every 3000/3750, unless you use synthetic, let the car warm up, I know it's hard but I see plenty of people driving cars that sat overnight with a heavy foot, that is premature wear on your engine, hence the timing chain tensioner, and have your trans serviced every 30k, and the trans benefits from warming up too.

My father owns an FX50S, I take it for service at Infiniti, I see plenty of Infiniti getting new transmissions, amazing how Infiniti owners don't change the fluid either and the trans stops working, who would have thought

I have an '04 SE. I bought it new on Oct. 1 2003. I now have over 130,000 miles on it. It's a six speed manual so there are no transmission issues. I change my oil/filter every 3,000-4,000 miles. I have had ZERO engine problems. Driving and maintenance habits have the most effect on the longevity of a car. Treat it correctly and it should last a long time. But it is a machine, and no matter how well you take care of it, it will eventually wear out.
