Just take your time. Start at the back, and work your way to the front. Pop each clip as you go, and just be gentle with the strips so you don't bend them.

Did you just use a screw driver to pop them off?

I wouldn't use a screwdriver...too many chances to chip the paint on the roof. I used some nylon pry tools that I got at harbor freight.

http://www.harborfreight.com/4-piece...kit-95214.html

Those have been invaluable for me. I've finally chewed up the ends on most of them, so I think it's time to replace them with a new set!

I saw these a couple months ago at Harbor Freight and wondered if they were any good. Thanks for advice. I will give it a whirl!

They are worth every penny. Those are the only tools I will use to remove any moldings/brackets/etc...from my car.

I am going to buy some today and start working on getting them off this weekend. Maybe if I get brave I will work on getting my speedometer and such out for the LED conversion.

1hawaii50, did you have to use those pry tools to get off the rear moldings or did you just remove the bolts and pull up on them?

I just removed the bolt and lift straight up on them. You could use the pry tool, but you shouldn't need to.

I am really thinking about this mod too.If it is really simple to get the chrome stripes off, I would give this a shot. Is it that easy as you say?

Where can I locally buy the black strip you bought? Pepboys? Or where?

Supposedly the local auto parts stores carry it. I checked my local O'Reilly's, Autozone, and Advance Auto, but I couldn't find it. I got mine from Summit Racing.

So of course my luck or my inability I found a way to break 2 clips on the back window molding. They didn't have them at Pep Boys. Is the a dealer only clip?

So of course Nissan said you have to buy the molding to get the clips. $204 each. So they gave me these ones that look similar at $3 a piece but needed modification to work. I modified them and they worked. So word do the wise I would not remove them unless you have to. I know I won't be going forward.

Sorry you had the problem. The only problem I had was I pulled off 2 of the lower clips...they are glued into the rain channels. Luckily I was able to resecure them using some Krazy glue.

The black looks really nice!! I wish the chrome would stay nice looking like it does on the strips on each side of the back window. I will be making this mod on my 08 soon.

It's already here in one of the stickies. Open your trunk lid, and take a look at where the front corners of the lid would be when it is closed, and you'll see the bolts...one on each side.

thanks for the post...did this last month and came out pretty good for a rattle can paint job. I just used a really long flat head screw driver with a rag to prevent it from damaging the paint (didn't break any clips). Like the OP said tho, pay particular attention at the front by the windshield so as to not bend the strips. I did that on one side and you can see where the strip is more secure, its not as flush against the car.

So far, it still looks as good as the day I installed it. We'll see how it does through the winter.

Very easy to do, just be careful removing the strips.

Yeah, they are not very durable. I was lucky...I only pulled 2 off of the car, but didn't break them. I was able to glue them back into the rain channel.

The grill is a C-Mod grill. I bought it from a member here, but you can get it here:

And welcome to the forums!

Just bought my wife an 07. The roof strips do look very bad. Im not a fan of the black and would perfer to keep the chrome look. Has anyone redone them with chrome instead. Not sure if they make any chrome tape that could be applied to them instead of black. The plastic on the trim is bubbling in spots so Im not sure if that can be peeled off and apply some type of chrome tape over it.

Yes, you can get chrome tape, carbon fiber tape, and all sorts of other tape. Check SummitRacing.com

My 2008 is still under full factory warranty as I only have 31,000 miles on it and my roof strips have turned. Oh well looks like Nissan gets to put some new ones on.

Don't go to the stealership to buy anything, jerks wanted to charge me $109 for a sunvisor clip that cost $3.95 here. They said they could not sell just the clip. They are crooks http://www.courtesyparts.com/73422ea...4-p-87648.html I am doing the roof strips on my car since Nissan quality is so great. Yeah I broke the clips, oh well at least I have courtesy parts to get the clips and not the stealership
