XEON Flickers and Goes Out. Bad Ground? Where is it?

I have a 2005 Maxima. For over a year, one of my headlamps flickers and then goes out. If I shut the lights on and off, the headlight will fire-up for a minute and then go out. In warmer weather, it stays on. Cooler or wet weather, it goes out. I installed a new bulb with the same flickering results. It's only doing this on the driver's side.

I happened to be at the local bar last night and a guy told me my light was out. I told him what was happening and he told me he had the same issue and was the ground wire. So, seeing ive tried everything else, I think I should try this. So... MY QUESTION IS... where the heck do I find the ground wire for the driver's side headlight?

I figured I would try this before I bring it into the shop and they charge me $600.

I have the same problem with my '03. I've also noticed that the color of one side has changed - instead of the bright white color one side is much more yellow now.

I'm assuming my bulbs just need to be replaced. They are only about 16 months old.

If you guys don't have yet installed ground wire kit then I would definitely try that first. It cost around $50 with self installation and it's very easy to install. You can also get all cables for less than $25 from Wal-Mart. They sell battery connector cables that look and work exactly the same way as ground wire kit others sells. It’s basically a piece of wires you ground engine and transmission points with chassis and battery. Let's other pro to chime in and see what they have to say.

Lower the bumper, remove the headlight housing and look around.

Quick question... Do you know if there's a ground for each headlight and if so, where is it?

Is the ballast in there too?

I'm confident it's one of those two things.

Thanks for the replies.

The head lights have separate grounds. The stock ground point is in the engine compartment directly behind each headlight in the fender area. Small black wires with a star washer. Its not likely that the ground failed.

I am agreement with this...I would say that your bulb or ballast is on the way out.

That being said, are you running stock HIDs or an aftermarket kit?

I have stock HIDs. It's not the bulb. I've replaced it and get the same flickering-then-off problem. If I turn the lights on and off, they may eventually come on for a few minutes.

I need to check the ground the ballast.

Question. How easy is it to change a ballast and what do they run?

Thanks

To change the ballasts, you have to take bumper off and remove the headlight housing. The ballast is on the bottom of the headlight housing.
