Wanna save some money when fixing you timing chain issues?
Here's what I did. I'm the Internet Sales Manager for a Nissan dealership in the Milwaukee area. I went to my finance department to inquire about an extended warranty to cover my timing chain tensioners. I bought a 2 year powertrain warranty for about $950. I financed the warranty at 0% for 12 months.
They went out to verify the mileage on the car and signed me up. I paid my $100 deductible when I brought the car in for the work to be done.
So I basically got my tensioners done for $1050 which is a lot cheaper than most places will do it for, plus I got a two year warranty with towing assistance, rental car coverage, trip interruption coverage and roadside assistance.
Granted I got a discount on the warranty, but even if someone pays full price, it'll still be worth it if you bring it in for the tensioners.
For those of you who do this, I would highly recommend taking it somewhere other than a Nissan dealership, as they may be already informed about the problem and may not let you buy it. You should be able to buy an extended warranty at ANY local dealership.
If I were to have this done by the dealership I work at I would've paid about $1300 to have it done so I saved myself about $250, and the savings would be even more so for you guys.
Also, if you decide to do this, MAKE SURE THE TIMING COMPONENTS ARE COVERED!!!!!!
My warranty company was JM&A based out of Florida and it's a nationwide warranty as long as an ASE mechanic worked on the car.
Any questions, feel free to ask me, I can try and walk you through the process.
