extended warranty ?

what are your thoughts on Nissan extended warranty ? my warranty is about to expire ( drive train) in about 1500 miles. I already had my transmission replaced once... is it worth paying about 3500 for 60k more mile coverage?

Not worth the money. You can pay for a lot of repairs for $3500.

Since the early 70's I have rarely bought a warranty or extended warranty. Carry $1000. deductible on 3 cars, homeowners, and prefer to "bankroll" any repairs myself. After almost 40 years I figure I am ahead by at least $35,000.

Did I ever get "caught". Yup on a '96 Jaguar with a $950. collision loss that I paid for out of pocket.

It all depends how you view insurance and warranties.
If you want to be paid for every little loss, then buy the insurance with low deductibles and buy the warranties and spend the upfront costs (premiums).
If you prefer insuring against catastrophies, save the premiums and warranty charges and bankroll it yourself.

$3500 is a lot. If you could get the warrantee for half that, then I'd say it's worth it.

Are you coming up on 60000 miles? Are you sure the warrantee will cost that much?

Hello,

I paid $1700 for my warranty when new. So far I had the water pump, sturts knock sensor and rear wheel bearings changed.

$3500 is way too much to pay for an extended warranty. Half that should get you a decent 50,000 mile powertrain warranty.

I paid $1600 for a $0 deductible extended warranty. I got the Gold Preferred. Trust me, it has been worth it. Here’s one tip…you can negotiate the cost of the warranty. Tell them others have paid $1500 and go from there.

I bet you weren't at 60000 miles either. I got mine when I was at 20000, but the 3 year was about to run out. So I got the extended to 100k and 5 years from date of purchase...all that for around $1300. But if I'd have tried that some 40,000 miles later I am pretty sure I'd pay at least $1000 more...

I was at 35,990 miles when I got my extended warranty. Now I'm at 89,500 miles and it's about to run out. I need to call to see if they have a program that will extend it another 2 or 3 years or another 24,000 or 36,000 miles.

im new to the forum but just to throw it out there i work for Great Lakes Credit Union and just purchased an extended warranty with a 4yr 48k mile platinum (bumper to bumper) warranty for $1745. $0 ded and never had an issue with it in the past. Used it to replace my altima se-r's transmission and few other things. if anyones interested you can shoot me an email at marcosg@glcu.org and i'll give you a quote. The nissan dealer offered there 3yr 36k mile warranty for $3000 but i passed.

nissan quoted 60k extension coverage at $3500... thats a bit pricey, 1 year 10k miles or something like that was like $1200..

extended warranties

hi there,
I just bought an '08 maixma Se w/ 36,400 miles on it - fully loaded; navigation, back up sensors, ect. I asked about doing the certification - they told me $745.00 on top of what we negotiated - $20,300 (for the car) I was good with that.
Things happened SOOO quickly w/ the finance woman, I found myself doing a "wrap around" the certification up to 120K or 7 years - so until 2016.
cost - $2,070.00. I feel like I just got ripped off. Worst feeling after buying a car. What is your thoughts? Has anyone heard of a certifying a car and getting a wrap? What the hek is the difference w/ the extended warranty or is this the same thing?

Any feedback appreciated. I am new so I hope I am just responding to a thread and not creating a new one.

7 years and 83000 miles for $2070, that's a good deal my friend, especially when starting at over 36000 to get the coverage.
