another transmission issue...
another transmission issue...
so last october I had my transmission replaced on my 06 max. there has been an issue where when im in 5th gear, if i let off the gas i feel the car jerk ( lack of better words) and when I press on the gas again ( not hard ) i feel it jerk again.. gears are not being changed when this is happening. I had my mounts replaced when I had the "new" transmission installed. so it really cant be a mount issue.. any thoughts/comments...thanks.
this is why I have another thread on extended warranty... im at 59k right now... power train expires at 60k...

does it happen only in the 5th or in other gears as well ? What rpm does it hesistate at ? Also, move your stick to the right and watch if it down shifts quickly or if it makes any difference when you leg go off the gas and/or press on it.
does not sound like a transmission issue. more like loosing power quickly or not able to sustain it ?
Also try this. When the car is idling, rev the engine and see if it does the same thing. You have the check engine light on ?
why did you replace the transimission the first time around, what were the symptoms ?
My 04 might do the same thing. I wouldnt call it a jerk but it feels like your slightly hitting the brakes. Then when I hit the throttle it does jerk a little. I figure its just gearing cause I never hear any bad sounds and it only does it on the De-accel.

or its like you said its not sustaining the power or coming off the power smoothly after you left off the gas.
it only happens when you are driving.. revving does nothing..seems fine.. no check engine light
last transmission had a delayed shift and shifting hard from 2 to 3 and shifting into reverse it felt like that tranny wanted to ripe apart from the engine.
sounds similar also..no bad sounds... maybe a light/slight thud.. nothing to cry about... i don't like it. when the car way new.. never felt like this..
when you drive a stick shift car and have the car in like 3rd gear and go too fast for that speed and left off the gas you feel that slow down.. kinda similar to that feeling but it also feels like the engine and transmission is bumping under the hood..my mechanic confirms all my mounts are good. .
yes i know what you mean, yours is a 5 speed automatic though, correct ?
Seems like it is loss of power issue than transmission problem..It is worth testing it in all the gears from 3 and up to rule out transmission issue. I agree when u let go off the gas, it should power down smoothly and when you hit the pedal again, there should be no jerks.
It is difficult to diagnose without any codes. Mass Air Flow, Fuel Injectors (though i doubt that), Crank Position Sensor, Clogged exhaust could be anything. Compression test may reveal something ? I dont know. What does the mechanic think ?
Noticed any difference in the gas mileage ?

yes it is an automatic... no codes, no lights.
I dont know how much to tell you the truth. Its will be difficult due to the fact that it requires taking apart the valve body. Only the transmission shops would know the parts and how to repair the problem. But like I said, get them checked out before you make your final decision.

oh confirm, it does it in gears 3-4-5.. auto..
I had a problem the same as you are describing that I just got fixed. About six months ago my right front dust boot ripped and I had a shop put on a whole new RF axle because it was not much more than having the boot changed. Ever since then whenever I press on the gas or let off the gas I got a clunk/thud sound. Car shifted fine no problems there. I took it back they said everything was fine but a bad motor mount so I had that changed with no improvement. This drove me crazy for six months. I took it to another shop and had them replace the axle I had just had put on six months earlier. Problem solved the first shop had put a defective axle on which had a looseness in it. Usually you can detect a CV joint/axle problem when you are turning because it makes noise but not in this case it sounded fine, the only noise was when pressing or letting off the gas.
A looseness in your CV joint/axle can cause what you are describing. It’s not easy to detect when the car is not moving and on a lift. I basically had to tell the second shop that I wanted my RF axle replaced again because they could not find anything else wrong that was causing the problem. Hope this helps I know how annoying it is to drive the car like that especially in stop and go traffic.
