What % Tint should I get?
Hey everyone,
I am about to tint my '07 and I was wondering which tint % I should get. My goal is to tint it to help with the hot southern weather but I also want it to look sharp. The car color is dk slate. I would like it if some of you guys could post pictures of your car & what % you have.
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply -- I look forward to seeing the pic. I was thinking 30% (unless the legal limit is higher but I think that is the limit).

Anyways, did a quick search and found the legal limit in SC:

Safe to say that you can go 25% ceramic and have no issues.

I always go 5% on the rear and 15% up front...but on the altima i used to have I had 5% all around and 35% on the windshield was a daily driver got no ticket and not even hard to see at night plus it was silver so you had the blacked out look!

Too many deer where i live, HAVE to see what is in front of you.
#11
Lol over here there aint no deer but you can visit shops and tel them to let you see the film thats why I did they all look the same from the outside but inside its differents so in side my car its like light up but outside its dark. Like on a 92 accord I had i had 35 on the 2 Fronts noticeable outside but nothing outside...

I like going 5% all around espeacially on the Merlot now and on the Gray Luste previous...but yeah every state have different laws Cali is I think 15% or 20%....Good Luck though......

I was always about dark tint, but after a few situations where things were coming up to the car on either side with no lights on at night, I figured it was better not to over do it. I can't recall what I'm at now, 30% maybe, it's plenty of protection from the sun, still looks good, and doesn't really look like it's there at night from the inside.

70% is the legal limit in CA which is pretty much clear. I had 20% all around until i got a ticket. I then went with 35% in the fronts and havent gotten harassed by cops(knock on wood) . Ive had them on for almost three years now and drove past and along many cops. The contrast between the 35% in the fronts and 20% in the back "fools" them into thinking they are not tinted.

I wouldnt go darker than 20% for your rear window. Like others have said, 5% is very dark and limits your visibility but that's if you do a lot of night driving. I had an 02 RSX with 5% on all the back windows and i must admit i couldnt see sh*t at night through the small windows.

35/20/20 too. Legal limit here is like 85% front (no tint....).
You cant see as much behind during night though. Even through the 35, if I want to back and its really dark(no lights), I'll lower the front window to see in the mirror....
With the contrast between 35/20, they see that my front windows are less tinted than the back and they dont harrass me (so far, been more than 3 years). I keep the moonroof panels open though, gets more light in and it looks less tinted.
During summer if I have to go next to a cop, I lower the windows. During winter, well, i'll just pray. On a sunny day w moonroof open, you can clearly see me inside, so they dont arrest me I guess.
Last time I went through a tinted window control, I lowered all 4 windows, put on some music, was a cold spring day lol, went through :P They were already busy w 3 other card giving tickets.
I guess one day I'll get a ticket, but so far, it's been ok. Honestly I just like it for some privacy and sun protection... not like I'm doing anything bad. 35% shouldnt be illegal imo. Eh.

MrElite1, something is missing on your Max..., a SPOILER!!! Complete the look like mine! Besides, nice looking Max.
As for OP, I have 35% all around. I wish I had 25% all around, though.

I have 20% all around in my sig. My other car has 35% all around and doesn't even look tinted when it's beside the Max.
I have also driven a car with 5% in the back, 35% up front...and like others have said, you can't see anything at night when backing.
Personally I find that 20% all around is perfect for me. As for looking sharp, I like the look of the same % all around.

I meant 5% in the rear window only! Anyway, anything less than this setup is just pointless in my opinion! Half of the decision is the quality of tint you apply as well. Buy the best or you will regret it over time for sure!!!
#31
Yeah and tint sometimes fades a lil go 5% back and 15% front.
#33
I like 20%. 35 is a bit light but thats the rules.
#35
They arrest for tint? DO they have a rule on the back? If you wanna stay legal get 5% back 35% front makes it a lil darker and say that you have 35% and if they test then you do but you still get the good look.
#37
Only a restriction for the windshield (no tint) and front (75% tint).
That means you basically cannot tint the front windows. Even a slight smoked look (50%) is illegal...... 35% is totally illegal BUT so far they have not arrested me for it.
20% is a sure ticket.

Seriously? That's some strict azz tint laws where your at man. In WA state, a lot of cars comes with 50% tint on the windshield from the factory. They just lowered the legal tint limit from 35% VLT - 24% VLT this year.

I'm at 20% up front, 0% in rear, and 0% on the back windshield. I also have 70% in my front windshield. I used to be at 0% all the way around and was pulled over by HP on a Tuesday afternoon about a year ago. I was forced to lighten up the fronts.
