Exhaust Bracket...?

The last couple week I had this rattle under the car, i thought it was the exhaust shield but Instead when I got under the car I found this bracket that is located between the 2 flex pipes, it was just loose and could not be tighten anymore. I could not find a place where it could be attached to. Does anyone know what is the purpose of this bracket? I ended up removing it because the rattling was driving me nuts.

Should I try getting a new one but where does it goes besides holding the 2 pipes?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure you all are talking about the gusset?
A lot of Maxima's have had this part break and there is a TSB on it, here is a picture of my broken one and a new one I installed:

The new one didn't rattle for a good 1 minute of driving before it picked up again, and that was because the piece became loose. Many other drivers say its okay to take the part out and I don't see why not, it doesn't really hold much together. When my new Y Pipe comes in I am taking mine out.
If this is not the part you are talking about I am sorry for wasting your time.

very common problem with our cars. replace the cracked gusset(s) and the grinding noise will be gone.

Not always. It also depends on whether or not you tightened the bolt(s) holding the gusset(s) tight enough. Not to mention other people have found other metal pieces that cause noise. I am taking my gussets out when my Y pipe comes in because new ones break in a matter of time anyways...

@ Twentyeggs, Thanks for the info I'd like to know where that piece is located to check it out, but that is not the part I removed. I looked it up online and the part is called BRACKET-EXHAUST TUBE MOUNTING part #
Replaced by: 20711-CA020 20711-7Y000.
