TOP SPEED

I'm just curious to know if anyone knows what a 6.5 gen's top speed is stock mph wise?

5th gens are not slower lol read the specs only way i could see it faster is if you buy the 6th gen in a stick otherwise from my experience and research 5th and 5.5 are faster than the 6th gen because of weight and size..

I have heard this before. I am glad to hear this from another person. You would just think Nissan would make the next generation faster . Kind of upsetting to me in a way.

not true.. 5th gens are not faster..

at one of the maxima meets 6 guys lined up to race with me in my 6th gen, 3 in souped up 5th gens, 2 in 4th gens..

i was faster than all of them and not by just a little bit.. all i have is exhaust, and SRI.. i even gave them a head start being that they were in front of me, and i still passed them up. these guys had a lot more engine mods than me btw, so whatever specs say, an actual race won this round.

this was on a closed course....

Had my 6th gen up to 140ish in 5th gear on the autobahn. That was a hair over 6,000 rpm and it still had a little more in it. I figure it would flirt with 150mph as long as there isn't a speed limiter in there somewhere.

As an owner of a 6.5 Gen I know it is not faster than a previous model stock vs. stock. Power is just not quite there.

149mph with the 6.5 gen. That is around 5850rpm. You can make it rev higher but you will not accelerate.

ok seriously, anyone with a 5th gen local to SoCal, message me.. i refuse to believe that Nissan will completely revamp one of their flagship cars and make it slower than the previous generation.. so unless someone wants to come prove it, im going to stick with what i saw at the last maxima meet with the many 5th gens, modded far more than i was, being passed up by me in a race where i gave them a huge head start...

....on a closed course

everywhere im reading says the 6.5 gen is faster.. and drive train wise, the 6th gen and 6.5 are the same..

1989 Nissan Maxima SE 0-60 mph 8.7 Quarter mile 16.6
1997 Nissan Maxima SE 0-60 mph 7.0 Quarter mile 15.3
2000 Nissan Maxima SE (Manual) 0-60 mph 6.6 Quarter mile 14.9
2004 Nissan Maxima 3.5SE 0-60 mph 6.3 Quarter Mile 14.8
2011 Nissan Maxima SV 0-60 mph 5.7

i know these are just numbers but stock for stock, the newer gens show they are faster than the last, as they should be

I have personally done 130mph, racing a chick in a 2009 Acura TSX on a trip from Houston to San Antonio. We drove close to each other for 15minutes, during which I would often be ahead, but she would come pass me too, until she exited at a gas station. Our speeds fluctuated, of course from 80 to 130mph based on if the road was clear or if we were coming up a hill and scared of a cop being there.

All the time, I tried to go further than 130mph, but it would never go past that! I don't know why. If we do have a limiter, where is it at? 130mph? Then how are these guys claiming more than 130mph? I got my 130mph when bone stock. No engine mod at all.

Well, I have proof of only 120mph on a pic I took. Will post pic later or just look in my album.

Does anybody happen to have a proof of the figures that they are claiming? That would be very interesting for us to see. And if you could list your performance mods with your pic of captured speed, that would super nice to see.

wtf dude.. your going to get this thread locked, we are talking about which nissan generation performs better on close course/track roads. stop talking about illegal street racing. we have a legitimate topic here that should concern most of us here.

Maybe your tires/wheels are giving you speedo errors.......are the stock 6th Gen overall diameter the same or smaller than those 7th gen 19" wheels/tires....?

twentyeggs, this topic is entitled TOP SPEED. And my top speed in my max has been 130mph.

It is funny you mention you race with 5 cars at the same time on a "closed course"? I don't think you and friends should get together for the sole purpose of racing to see who goes faster. Your speed depends partly on your driving skills and risk-taking capabilities.

What was your TOP SPEED when you claim you beat the other modded max? Let me know your top speed on that day that you came out the best. Remember, this is about TOP SPEED of the max.

As for me, if I take my 3 hour trip out of town and I feel as to drive fast, I do. If a car is trying to keep up with me, they can feel free to tag along.

That's a 5th gen, a 5.5gen will beat us. Same 3.5L engine in a lighter body has us beat. Its like the Altima SER, it has us beat because of the weight of our cars,

same engine, not the same output..

yeah it is 200 lbs more than the 5th gen with the 3.5.. but its also less HP and less efficient drive train.

with these power to weight numbers being so close, it would be foolish to say, based off that information which one is faster. power to weight estimations are for ball park ideas, they are vague guesses, not a tell all. which leaves actually racing head to head, which so far the verdict points to the 6th gen with the upper hand. like i said before, three 5.5 gens (2 manual, 1 auto) all with engine mods, all with a huge head start, were run down by me in my 5 speed automatic trans 6th gen, in a matter of seconds. and like i said, again, all i have is a SRI and catback exhaust.

ill tell you what, next meet we have ill get it on video for you.

You guys are smoking crack if you think the 5.5 gen is SLOWER than the 6th gens. Just go to DragTimes.com and see which Maximas are fastest. Hint, hint: It's not your '07 CVTs!

The 5.5 gen has a 255 HP VQ35DE and weighs 3200 lb. The 6th gen has a "265" HP VQ35DE and weighs in excess of what, 3400 lbs? 3600 lbs? Not to mention the huge, heavy wheels that come with the 6th gens.

Lightly modded 5.5s are doing 0-60s in almost 5.5 seconds! Run the math on their timeslips and see. I find it hard to believe that a car between 200 and ~400 lbs heavier with the same power rating is quicker in a straight line.

The manual transmissions aren't limited, but I'm assuming you autotragic guys have limiters at the same speed as earlier generations.

Twentyeggs: I'd love to see the video of some hot auto-tragic on auto-tragic action. I'd agree that if you all had 6MTs it'd basically be a driver's race, but... Did those poor guys you beat have 200,000 miles on the odometer to your 40,000?

you do realize that your "255 hp" is not to the wheels right and the weight is not going to play such a HUGE factor where the 5th gen will totally destroy the 6th - i'd say it's all dependent on drive skill at the end of the day as well as mods done to each vehicle
also, did you not check out the vid posted by DMAXI06 - i think that one is pretty clear no ?
i have never had an issue beating a 5th gen or 5.5 gen.
as to your auto-tragic comment, why get a stick when you can beat the 5th gen with a coffee in my hand

i maxed the speedomter 160mph when i had a stock car, the 6spd isnt limited at all, i dunno why nissan did this, but i did this a bunch of times when i stayed the month up in canada...

I just picked up a '99 which I guess is a 4th gen. I already put 1,100 miles on it and got it up to about 75 mph on I-40. Maybe I should stay out of this since I'm to cheep to pay for the gas of high speed.

maybe the 5.5 genners are just a little envious of our luxury, and have beaten too many civics its starting to mess with their heads, and being the underdog, they are letting their imaginations run wild....

agree, 2nd video posted with the 6th gen being the clear winner and still people with the 5th gens are disagreeing.
