My CVT went

Just thought id let you guys know. 2007 SE with 52,000 miles and my CVT tranny started to go. Took it to Nissan service and they are installing a new one FREE of charge. Sucks not having my car for a week but at least its not costing me anything out of pocket.

UPDATE: To the guys wondering what happened. Lets say i come to a red light. As i accelerate it almost felt like it was starting out in 3rd gear. It moved but i could definitely notice the huge lack of power. Also i dont know if it was related or not but the service engine light came on. Ill be honest i actually like the feel of the CVT. It took me a long time to get used to it but i like it. I had a 96 se before this that i had for 10 years and i NEVER had a problem until the last year i had it but at that point the car was already 13 years old.

ANOTHER UPDATE: got my car back. shes running 110% better. they told me i need a air fuel ration sensor. anybody know anything about that?

as a loyal maxima owner.. i won't be buying another one until they do away with cvt, and go 3.7 liter 6 speed automatic AWD... that would be awesome..

3.7 AWD or RWD would be cool, also what is the problem with the CVT? I thought they fixed the issues on them for the 07-08 maximas ?

Or 8 speed automatic like hyundai genesis.

When they make the new genesis model with AWD coming, im gone

The 3.8-litre V6 now receives direct injection, which beefs up the horsepower from 290 to 333 horses, and torque from 264 to 291 lb.-ft. 8 speed auto too.

The only reason I dont have a genesis yet is that you dont want RWD for winter

too much technology running these cars. who know how a cvt will stand up to heavy modding or 250,000+ miles, plus with a cvt you always feel it could do better, not to mention they monotone droning noise it makes is annoying sounds like your driving a jet ski or a ranch quad...

+1 on more info, but I think this is a isolated issue. There's 6.5 gens with over 70,000 with no CVT issues, also Nissan step up with the warranty on the CVT so I have no concerns at all.

CVT is weird if one is not use to it, but fun once you do get use to it. Hyundias are nice but never will be nicer then a Nissan. only in my opinion. I want to stay on topic with this thread. So what exactly happened to the CVT. What were the noises? Were they loud? Was it easy for one to notice the problem?

They do, its called a G37x. Or you can go with the M37x. Both come with a 7 speed auto.

Yup, I can vouch for that. I have 89K + with no CVT issues. It's all about maintenance and how well you take care of it but, things happen.

Why you guys gotta cloud up a thread with your tired a$$ CVT hatred?

CVT isn't a bad thing, been in procudtion for a lot of years now. Also carries an extended 120,000 (edited) mile warrantee coverage. Sure, it's not a manual 6 speed, but it does the job, and quite well. You're all sore because you still have a tape deck on your dash...

Anyway, I'm curious for more details about the symptom felt by the OP. 52k is low...

Earth to JayWillis? Don't start a thread like this and then don't Respond. Your playing around with our maxima hearts here. We want to know so when our CVTs go bad we can notice the problem and take it in before warranty expires man

I'm starting to think this thread is a fake...there's no problem with CVT in a 2007, it's all a made up story to give the tapedeck sportin' fools something to b!tchz about because they are sore that their car is so outdated...

Honda is right underneath Nissan. Only thing good Honda offers IS a VTECH engine. That's it. Personally I think the VQ blast the VTECH away. Also I think this thread is fake as well. Could b real but chances are small. O7-08 CVTs should be solid. Mine is solid still and I drive the crap out of mine everyday. It only has 43,400 on it

I don't need a shift!! It just pulls the whole time!

10 year warranty! There is nothing wrong with CVT.

all depends on your mods.

and within the next year? no way.. i just made a decision!! (like 15 min ago)

suspension vs. power

i chose suspension this time and literally just got done buying racingline front and rear end links, racingline strut tower brace, 20mm and 25mm spacers. and right now im about to hunt KCmax down and get one of his RSBs. the question is do i get one or two... i don't know if a second would be redundant.

in a few months im gunna be getting racingline HFPC headers and y pipe and NWP spacers and uprev/osiris

we can race after that

I got all that you just mention except the endlinks and uprev. After my nitrous install I'll get it tuned using the uprev.

N2O + CVT, that would be pretty cool. Instead of the tach moving, only the speedometer would be, kinda acting like a pseudo tach.

How big of a shot?

im looked into nitrous too.. if i ever do it i want mine set up differently. because im not drag racing i don't want mine on a trigger. I want a kill switch, and an activation switch under my gas peddle thats it. basically, when i turn the system on its becomes active and fires when the gas peddle is fully depressed.

basically a normal set up without the nos button. kinda like when i hit the switch its like i go into turbo-mode lol

but again i donno about no2. if i were ever to do it, it would be my absolute last mod. i don't really see no2 as real power on the road. i mean you could make an 89 camery as fast as a corvette with a wet system. No2 is really only good for time chasing and money making off road. its different if it was a track car versing other cars with no2.

how do you know the cvt is able to handle so much extra power and not just slip over all the pulleys ending up in a catastrophic failure?

with gears you are handling extra power under good old durable metal gears.

adding 50-100 HP could ruin that CVT belt in a matter of months.

another reason CVT=fail for performance modding. too many risky unknowns

No one knows that and I wont say anything unless it does fail and, well there are a few A35 CVT's handling N2O just fine.

Since I dyno a lot, the only gripe I have with the CVT is how the hell do you dyno?

That's a good place to start. I would start at 50 and move up. What kit are you going with, wet I imagine, and who's installing?

Yes a wet NOS system, with automatic bottle opener and heater blanket. I haven't installed it yet because I don't know where to get it installed. I need to find a reputable shop first.
