Dealer says I need new engine on 2005 what do I do

I have a 2005 SL with about 110,000 miles on it. Have been getting regular oil changes, but last week oil light came on and car made loud noises. Towed it to the dealer who is saying the engine heated up cracked the oil pump and damaged the engine. They are saying 5700 to replace engine, what should I do?

You're screwed. For 6G's to replace? Forget it. Get what you can for it from the dealer, apply the 6G's to buy a used Accord V6.

you can get a 3.5 engine for around 1500 maybe even less depending where you look. Labor is around 1000, again maybe cheaper depending where you shop. Dealers always want tooo much. shop around

I don't think Nissan will warranty an engine with 110,000 miles on it.

+1 just look around ebay or your local junkyard. i know nyc guys have found 3.5 motors for as cheap as 600. labor shouldn't be more then 1200.

oh if i were you i would take it to another shop for a 2nd opinion. dealerships are known for being a little out there when it comes to fixes. you have to remember they do earn commission.

Oil changes have little to do with the engine cracking, did you ever change the coolant

www.car-part.com <= Find a used engine with low miles preferably 2006 and find a local shop that will replace the engine and flush all fluids

oil pump failure sounds like the cause of it, even oil changes wont help if the screen on the oil pump /sludge is preventing the oil to filter the pump.

VQs are getting a bit harder to find since everyone is doing 3.5 swaps.

normally pricing $500-800 engine,

swapping motors labor here in FL $1,200

your still under the $5,600 Nissan wants.
