Sale max or Keep Max?
Okay guys I have a problem. Not a bad problem. Anyways my grandpa called me up today, told me he sold his house that's been on the market down in florida . His car down there is 2003 I35 Infiniti with 18,000k on the engine. Sunshade sunroof package. Hid Xeons. My car is 2008 maxima SL with 44,700 miles on the engine. I still owe 10 grand on my max and if I were to sale the max I could get the infiniti and be debt free... I really like both cars but Idk if I could part with the maxima. Really like the Bluetooth and parking seņors . I'm just curious to see what you guys would do if you were me? Sale maxima and get Infinti or keep maxima make the payments and let my Gpa sale Infinti to someone else

Woah, I say sell the 6th gen and go for the 5th gen. It should be just as fast as your current car if not a tad faster. Plus its an infiniti.
You mentioned you'd be debt free. Thats a nice feeling to have. I say go for it and sell the max.

The feeling of debt-free is ALWAYS good. Besides, the car has 18k on it, so you should be fine with the car.
If I was the one, I would sell my 08 and get the Infiniti. Besides, you can always pay yourself the 10k over 2 years or so and have enough money with the Infiniti to put as a down payment for a 2013 Maxima or even 2013 Infiniti. I say sell maxima and go with Infiniti with less miles whihc might have been very well babied by your grand-dad.

Does the I35 have the heated rear seats? If so, I say SOLD to the former 08 Max owner.
Plus for a young buck like you the lower cost of insurance on an 03 should save you some cash too.

Option. All ask the I30-i35 guys to see if they would know if it's got heated rear seats

OP, my favorite option on my Max is the "no monthly payment" option. You should pull the trigger and do it. I'm sure your grandpa wasn't ******* that I35 at the track so it should be mint. Just Do It.

So far you guys are pushing me torwards the i35. Just got off the phone with Gpa and he said he'll buy me a plane ticket in a couple weeks and I can go down to get it then drive it back to saint Louis for him. Then decide if I want it or not. I appreciate everyones advice here. Please keep the advice coming everyones opinion helps me make a decision

youll still have a vq35..and if you put some wheels and coilovers on those cars they can look pretty damn sharp...better then any 6th gen really..not to mention resale value is going to be higher with the infiniti....

It really depends on what you want and what you can afford. If you really like your 6.5 than I suggest keeping it since you have barely any miles on it. On the other hand, if being debt free involves helping you through some sort of financial hardship that your having than by all means. Do what's right and lastly, if you can afford it than it wouldn't hurt to have both.
IMO the infiniti looks good and everything but I rather have a 6.5.

To be sensible or not to be sensible that is the qeustion... My girlfriend is going with not being sensible. Screw her tho . I kinda hope that the Infiniti rides alot better or something. Hopefully the automatic transmissions aren't bad in them etheir

I wish it was G35 lol. But it's only a I35. If I don't like the car then I will sale it to one of you guys on here bc as far I know it's the only I35 left in the whole united states with the least amount of miles on it up to date on record

No debt feeling would be nice. Now my mind is truely wondering about these automatics . I wonder if it's the same automatic transmission as the 04-06 Max auto transmissions. That would be scary to think about.

Anyone who wouldn't go for the debt-free option is an idiot. Same engine in a car that's less of a tank than a 6th gen in the upscale brand which leads to better resale value. You absolutely get rid of that 6th gen.
I don't want to bash since this guy seems to have knowledge and common sense since he's leaning in the right direction, but this is almost as bad a question as the 4th gen guy who wanted to know whether to sell his POS for five times what it was worth. The answer is so obvious.

Yes, it's good feeling to be debt-free. The tranny of the 02 I35 is 4-speed and is likely to be less problem-prone. The 5.5 gen and some 04 SL 6th gens have 4-speed auto and do not have the notoriety of the 5-speed auto 6th gen. But for someone with a cvt 08 6th gen, don't you think the the 02 I35 is somewhat outmoded?

The 6th Gen is a heavier car with relatively the same trans, only now the trans burns out sooner, no one wants to change the fluid, everyone thinks everything last until 100k, same trans carrying more weight obviously we can figure out what will happen.
I learned one thing working as a tech, perform maintenance like it's a BMW, especially your essential fluids, everything has a risk, to this day people ask me and I tell them change your Nissan trans fluid every 30k and most laugh at me and tell me, thanks but I will change it at 90k
The 03 I35 is a great car, solid build quality, just change the trans fluid at 30k and your golden

When I worked for Nissan, any Maxima, 4th& 5th gens that came in for a new trans usually had 90-120k on the odometer with no fluid changes, fluid burns up stops doing its job and the trans dies.

The 6.5gen CVT, never worked on one but my buddy says the replacements of CVT is no where close to the previous 4 & 5 speed transmissions, it has a smaller failure rate currently
