Engine swap thread.

Hello.
So basically im swapping an engine in my 04 maxima since Ive found some metal shavings in the oil pan.

I'm looking at car part.com and have some questions.
Nissan quest engine should be interchangeable with my maxima engine right?
I mean its the same VQ engine, but just wondering if the manifold is the same ect...

I'd imagine it'll work. I'm sure some of the older members have experience with this. You might check if the part numbers are the same.

But the Quest is rated 15hp lower. I wonder if it's all in the ECM programming or if something else is different.

Just curious, did your pre-cats ever fail? Mine did, and I also found metal shavings in my oil pan. I always wonder if the incidents are related or not. My engine (short block only) was changed under warranty, about 40k miles after my pre-cats were changed.

Nope, no precat related codes.
Besides, the previous owner took poor care of the vehicle. Luckily, the transmission seemed to shift nice and no grinds so im just going to swap the motor. Besides, the rattle was ridiculously loud from the tensioners and i had my oil light on the whole time so its safe to assume this motor is either damaged or heavily worn out.
I'm taking pics of the process, so i might post em up once done.

Spotted your post on engine swap. Did you get it done yet? Are you putting in a new one, remfg, or used one? I had to swap mine in my daughters 04 Max a couple weeks ago and we dropped in a used one. Had some really intersting talks with the engine replacement shops in Atlanta about the process and availibility. Just wondered what you did.

Tomorrow, im going to this shop that has a 07 A/T engine with 41K miles, so used, going to take a look at it first.
Everything is pretty much disconnected in the car. All i need is to take off the transmission. Don't have much spare time on my hands but im getting there.

Before putting in the new engine, i plan on opening up the timing cover and replacing some timing components to avoid the dreaded timing chain whine. Will replace the water pump since i got a really good deal on a new one.

Stupid question I know but is it possible to install the 3.7 engine in it?

I thought they only had problems with the 04 maybe 05s but 06 and up they already put better tension chain on it but not for sure....
