well... I've been on the Maxima forums for 8 years.. since I was 16 yrs old lol and after owning 3 maximas they definitely fulfilled much of my young adult life, and how much fun I had in them and on here. All of you have been great, and it's been fun! I learned a LOT about Maximas over the years and a lot because of this forum, I'll miss it. OK enough of the sadness lol, my maxi has 180,000 miles on it now and it was time to change, I picked up a new bmw 335 diesel (yes what a shocker) and love it, I still have the Max for now but will probably sell it or part it out in the future. but anyway, wanted to give my official goodbye, and thanks, to all the members and mods who helped me over the years. it's been fun y'all. have a happy and safe new year.

I am so glad for you. That is a real luxurious car. We all live but once. If you want something and can afford it and enjoy it without drowning in lots of debts, by all means buy it and enjoy it. It is the fruit of your labor. Congrats again on your purchase. We would love to see some pics of this DIESEL BMW. I understand the new diesel engines are very clean. So, good for you. I would like to know how many miles per gallon too. 40?

Well, it was the reverse in my own case: I swapped a 528i BMW for my 6th gen.

 

Haha that's funny it seems like BMW owners switch up to Maximas or vice versa. I kinda like that

My recommendation to you is to read the stickies and use the search button before posting up any random new topic, chances are that it has been covered before- you can catch a whole lot of grief from some. I just dumped a few Gs in my 05 Max and admit I was looking at the Bring Money Withyou BMW cars. I think I made the right choice.

 

If you can afford the up keep on a expensive car go for it. I'd rather spend my money on mods on the car vs spending my money to fix something that's doomed to break soon again. To each is there own

maybe in a decade diesel cars will out perform and be more cost effective than regular fuel at a resonable price, but for the love of god.. why...

i worked in a diesel shop for many years... and i HATE hate HATE the smell of diesel exhaust. i would never buy one just for that reason alone not to mention the others. but hey if its what you want than congrats. bmw diesel engines are bullet proof. they last forever. its the only beemer that you can link with the word reliable.

you still should have bought my next car, the G37 one test drive and its all you will be thinking about until its in your garage. then you'll be thinking about twin turbos, AWD, and 500+WHP in the pursuit of converting it to a skyline. there are many covette killer g37s out there. and very reliable parts companies involved in the whole process. its the best car known to man other than the GT-R.

Thanks. I've been reading the site and I have a few issues with my Maxima that others have or have had such as transmission shifting and fail safe mode, so i'm searching the forums for fixes now. Thanks again.

 

I own a 1987 Mercedes 300 TDT with 530,000 miles. Unfortuanlly I blew a headgasket and now I have to fix that. Disels can last for more then 1,000,000 miles.

oh come on it can't be horrible, i left it pretty positive..

i just want different things from a car. diesel has its benefits over petrol, and vice versa, the majority of people don't value those benefits. have you seen top gear? the word diesel sends chills, frowns and disdain among them and car enthusiasts alike. i am not alone! lol

 

i will admit those torque numbers are pretty impressive. i wonder why they didn't incorporate it with a better set of gear ratio to harness the torque for speed. in my opinion its a waste. torque geared low is for towing!! they should have put some taller gears ratios and then i might agree.

i don't have any doubt that diesel/biofuel is big for the future and many models will arrive that out perform petrol speed and acceleration wise, but so far those are in the premium very expensive cars. not very practical.

 

I did the same thing... gave my kid my 323ic, bought a 530 sport pack ... divorced the BMW tech I was married to and went to Maxima's instead

I'm on my second Maxima... bought an 04 6-speed manual and loved it! Sold it, regretted it, just bought an 06 5-speed auto and now reading these boards am thinking I might regret this decision as well. (Glad to find these boards this week, though! Hello people!)

Oh well... I love the car itself, guess I'll fix what comes up and try not to cry too hard!
