Spark Plug Defouler Question?

Anyone ever use a spark plug defouler to pass smog? I talked to some guy and he told me car will pass smog if I do this mod and will get rid of the service engine light. Car throws a P0420 bank1 and it goes on and off occassionally. He quoted me $150 to weld something. But I can do it myself for under $20 without welding.

Anyone ever tried it?

Might as well give it a try and report back if you can do it for $20. You've got nothing to lose.

Your car is just telling you to smoke a fat one, that's all.

Look into o2 simulators if you're looking to get rid of p420 or p430.

The antifouler trick will do the same thing as an O2 sim without having to splice anything.

Doesn't the 6th gen use wideband 02 sensors? If so, the non-fouler trick won't work.

Well I just installed it, went to autozone and purchased one for under $5. I put it the o2 sensor thats behind the fire wall connected to the header. Is this the wide band sensor?

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

My RSX-S has an OEM wide band o2 sensor as well and it works. Been using it and had no problem. I hope its the same with these cars.

Smoged the car today and it passed. I think the cat is still good, and the computer is reading something different. I know its a common problem in this car as well. I might try to check the pressure on the the cat to confirm one of these days, but we'll see. I'm just glad it worked.

Its called spark plug fouler. Cost about $4.50, you also need to get 1/2 drill bit and drill a hole for the o2 sensor to pass through the first hole. Find one that fits your o2 sensor, cant remember the size from top of my head but maxima o2 sensor uses 22 mm.

This is how it looks like: http://www.partsgeek.com/jhq7ry3-lin...ouler+-+Dorman
