RUST ISSUE
RUST ISSUE
Greetings, BLAQNITE here and I'm new to this forum. Anyway I own a 07 Max SE that I bought new in upstate NY and after several harsh winters I finally moved to warmer climate, well after a recent state inspection I was informed that my floor pans are almost rusted through. Has anyone experienced this and by chance have any good advice for me to correct it. I already consulted a good mechanic friend of mines and he's willing to do the work, but he told me that I gotta remove the front seats and carpet, really trying to keep from doing that. Again any good advice will be well received. Thanks

For you're situation though, taking out the seats is not difficult at all. If you truly need to replace sheet metal underneath your seating area, then you'll most likely have to remove the seats (depending on the location of course). How bad is the rust anyways? I've never experienced such a problem, but pics would help! Did you actually look at it yourself or are you relying solely on the mechanics word?
I have a bit of rust around the right rear wheel well all after 8 winters up here in Montreal, Canada where there are usually heavy winters with extreme cold temperatures, salt, sand etc. The rust is so minor that I can take of it myself with a bit rust inhibitor sprayed on a small brush on the inside and outside of the area of the wheel well (Arch)...that's after a mild cleaning with a light compounding and then finishing the whole thing with a paint brush dipped in the same color (silver). I'm also tempted to add a strip of 3M plastic protector (like clear tape) DIY to protect the area in question. It's gonna be a busy spring getting this car back in shape for another summer season.
