Bought a salvage 08' maxima unseen in person
Ive been drivin' a 2001 for 9 years and was bought as a salvage vehicle and repaired as well. Ive loved the car and am a excited about my new purchase. I like messing with salvage vehicles and purchased this 08 by the pics you see (few more not added). Of course the car has a salvage title but with the price I paid, seemed like a no brainer.
Now my question..You guys are prolly more familiar with this year model than most anyone so here goes...Looking at the pics, can you tell me what added options are here with this car such as bose, heated seats and such. I won't have the car for a couple weeks and am just excited to know what goodies are coming with the car...(just excided about a different ride after 9 years)..I came to the site looking for pics of aftermarket grills and such since I'm repairing some stuff..
Thanks In advance..

which auction did you pick that up from? that is a nice looking car. Very light damage too. Suprised the airbag didn't pop given the hit came right into the airbag sensor. either way, good luck with the repairs.

Little suprised about the air bags myself. My guess was the maxima was not the cause of the damage. Maybe it was parked on a sidestreet or something.
I bought it through iaai.com. Got really lucky..I have been looking for months..

Wow I cant believe that they totaled that car
The seats will probably be heated (the buttons will be near the armrest) and it might have heated mirrors (turns on automatically with rear defroster if you have it) and heated steering wheel (button will be near the armrest if you have it) -- not sure about the audio
The best part will be the intelligent key since you just keep it in your pocket the whole time -- once you get used to it, you'll find driving other cars with regular keys annoying

Based on it having the rear sonar sensors it should have the BOSE audio (with XM/Sirrus *Antenna on the roof*), heated seats/steering wheel/mirrors. Homelink, power folding and auto dimming rear view and side mirrors. pretty much everything but Navigation plus regular power moon roof. Thats what I have

One more thing it will have is the 2 memory setting for the drivers seat/steering wheel with auto exit/entry which will slide the seat back and raise the steering wheel once you shut the car off and open the door and once you start the car again put everything back to the last setting.

If you're going to pull out the engine to fix that front damage, i highly recommend you do the timing tensioners while at it. The slack guide for the main chain has been fixed in 6.5gens but the shoe tensioners on the secondary chains have not until 7th gen.
Its much easier to do while engine is out of the car. Its a PITA while the engine is in the car.

Thanks a lot!!!...I appreciate the heads up on the tensioners. This is information you cant just get anywhere..
Was hoping not to pull it but I was taking a gamble buying it off the pics. I've got a great frame guy but the engine guy is old school and too dated to pull the motor for this new of vehicle.

Looks real good. I almost did the same thing just to find a 6spd max. But I happened to find one not wrecked local to me for a very good price.
Shouldn't cost you to much to get repaired and looks like low miles....good job.
Side note.......Looks like I see a SE badge but looks like its has the SL wheels.

Checked it out..thats crazy..SE wheel looks much better..why change? Cheaper tires is only logical reason..

More than one airbag sensor has to be hit, or triggered in order for the airbag(s) to deploy. Early airbag designs were too sensitive and were setting off during light impacts, so as technology became better, airbag systems also became better.

depends on the angle of the hit and speed. i remember it from mechanic school vaguely, i believe for the airbag to deploy it has to be at least a 22km/h hit within a 60 degree window on the front (a 60 degree V shape from the center of the front grille)
that hit doesnt look bad, probably bumped the rear of a truck and just broke the grille and crunched the hood up

I am curious to why the totaled this thing. I'm just hoping it wasn't a previous salvage vehicle rebuilt then hit again..thats a mess.

Lots of people shy from salvage vehicles. I keep vehicles long time (if I like em quickly) but I feel ya have bigger chance at a lemon buying used on a lot somewhere..those people traded in for a reason..boredom, lemon, etc..
With a wreck..insurance co. takes if from ya..still a lot of luck involved but most likely the person wasn't selling the car at the time of deemed salvage..
just my messed up reasoning.
Having a stud bodyman who works too cheap helps too..

What I don't get is why this car has a salvage title for damage that's easily fixed. I've seen cars with much more damage that didn't get totaled and they were fixed. Probably depends on what insurance company the previous owner had.

I bought a 2001 se loaded in 2003 with 20k miles..paid 3300 and had 8100 in it after repairs..I still have the car.......lovin' the cheap personal property taxes due to the salvage issue...
#23
Instead of fixing it, you can part it out and make your money back. It does seem sketchy that it was totaled considering the low miles on the car and the minimal damage done to it.

the title on a car meant nothing to me... salvage or not makes no difference... I have a 96 corolla that I purchased almost 6 years ago with a salvage title... the only damage was the front and back bumper were cracked not even the headlight/taillight were scrached... why thy totaled car no idea to this day??? I did however noticed a timing belt sticker on the top of the head that stated the replacement date/miles... so I called the dealer who did it and asked if he can provide me with some service history of the car... he said that they have serviced the car since new... the only thing that needed a replacement was the clutch and the struts... other than that the salvage corolla is still driven daily by my brother and a delivery car I drove it for 2 years before he did as a pizza delivery as well... no problems what so ever for the past 6 years and the car is running great... Once again just b/c it is a salvage title it means nothing... considering the pictures of the car I would say you found yourself basically a new car that needs some plastics replaced on it... If you don't wan it I will buy it from you

Sorry I have missed all the responses. Some reason I wasn't subscribed to my own thread. Ill get to those once I catch up on life..sheesh..
Anyway..ended up with 11,300 in it after tax, fees, tags, gas back and forth for parts and to bodyman..IMO is a steal...ive been driving it for a month and a half now and love it...this car is awesome..
Honestly cant imagine a $60,000 caddie having more equipment. Anyway, the harness was pinched in multiple places and it costed dearly to get the connections repaired and both headlights were busted as I missed in the pics (another 500 bux)
Pix below..give me opinions (keep in mind, im almost 40 years old)..they were quick, gave it a wash and was getting dark when finished..

The airbag sensor was crushed .. im talking wires dangling and thats about it..that tells me it was parked and was not running. I replaced it, reset airbag light and all was good...lots of fuses blown but easy fix.
More than 1,000 but I got an excellent deal!! Love Maximas!!

They probably totaled because the insurance company probably uses a body shop that charges way to much. I had a 06' g6 gtp with 16k miles and did the same damage. it was about 6k in parts and 8k in labor so they totaled because i owed 16k. so they just gave me bluebook plus acc. cash walked with 2k.

Wow, that came out great. Congrats on the purchase, and best of luck with the car! You got an excellent deal, IMO, especially considering that you seem to hold on to your cars for a while - no need to worry about resale values and all of that.
Is that boxer in that last pic?
