04 Maxima 6spd with 04 Altima header and Catback with Magnaflow 14816 muffler

So I finially got my altima headers installed and I must say I feel a big gain. It was a very long install and most of my bolts was seized up and needed to be cut off. Not sure how many 6spd 6thgens have a full exhaust system but add me to that list. I've basically installed every bolt on mod that I could of gotten my hands on. Let me know what you all think.

Check out my video clip.

Watched you vid, sounded pretty good to me BUT I feel you on the overall loudness.
Here is what I did to fix it: http://my6thgen.org/f19/affect-heade...ne-buzz-12989/ At least you'll get some ideas.

So with your resonator how much did the sound reduce by? 10,15%? If I can't get a fix for this i'm definitely reversing the mod. It's too loud and I can be heard before i'm seen,and with kids in the car it's too much

Sounds mean and looks good.
If you really cant take the sound you can always go back to stock exhaust. At least keep the header/y since thats your biggest single gains.

I have kids, wife they all have to ride in it. It was sufficient, it's obviously not stock volume levels but it is very tolerable for me. I removed my setup with the smaller res like you have right now and opted for that bigger res.

At first it wasn't enough then I had to have them turn it around. It's been like for about 2yrs now, I'm still cruising the headers. I kept the smaller res to put on the car for track days.

Do you have a link for where you purchased these? Are they stock Altima headers or aftermarket?

I'm gonna try the magnaflow resonator and see what happens. If I can't stand the noise i'll reverse the headers because I love the ebay N1 catback with the stock headers. I had to litterally shift to 4th gear passing a cop today. I was crossing my fingers he didn't turn around

I did it to gain more power but this is my every day car and i'm in it about 85km a day but that groan,rasp and loudness is killing me. It's only been two days and I hate it with a passion. I feel a nice gain and i'm excited as hell to hit the tracks to see how she does. I hope I can avoid the cops and I don't get a ticket before that. I did alot of mods since last year so i'm really hoping all this work wasn't in vain

They are ebay headers for the VQ35DE 3.5 liter engine. Just go on ebay and try to find it. It's between $250-300. If you do get them make sure you find a good installer who would give you a good flat price because it's alot of work and if you pay by the hr you'd be screwed.

Yeah man, appreciate the feedback. I just ordered a 22" magnaflow resonator. I auto srarted my car around 5:30 this morning and I could hear it so loud that I had to turn it off. I hope the resonator works well because I had a sound that I love and now I have a sound that I hate

Is that 6in round res? I've been considering that one myself. The one I am using toned it down quite a bit, and made it just a tiny bit louder than what I would consider to be just right. Of course my res is more aggressive (I think) than the magnaflow.

Don't do it, that won't work, it's too small. It's no bigger than the one you have now right?

I think you want part #14615

No the one one the car is not that bigger the the piping. This one is a 2.25 inlet/outlet, the one I ordered is a 2.5 and my pipe is the same. This one is 20" long compare to 28" the barrel is 14" compared to 22". I got the biggest one available and compatible with my piping.

Okay yeah, I didn't notice the inlet outlet sizes are too small. Otherwise it would be a good way to go. Well hope that one works for you, it would be a shame to lose the headers.

Stainless Steel Muffler; 6 in. Round Body;
2.25 in. Inlet/Outlet; Center/Center;
2.5 in. Core; 14 in. Body Length;
20 in. Overall Length;

Hey man I got the resonator and installed it right away. I must say it's a major difference in sound and I have that soft growl that I had with just the catback. As for the smell it's still disgusting because on my way home in traffic the cars behind me would stay 3-4 car lenghts clear.

I didn't walk with my camera to take out pics but when the car goes back up on a hoist i'll definitely take some. The resonator part # 10436 fit just right with my 2.25 piping and it was just a cut and weld. I would highly recommend that resonator if any 6thgen does a full exhaust system. Again thanks a lot for the suggestions.

Well, id make a bung, weld it to the header and hook it up. It does make an impact on your A/F ratio.

Sounds like you didnt really research adding CATLESS headers. No offence but of course its gonna smell pretty potent! Im used to mine. But at first my eyes would tear lol. The way you're complaining I don't think you should keep them on. Just wait until it gets above 80 degrees F. The smell you have now is really nowhere near how it smells when its hot outside.

Well I only started the performance bolt on's a few weeks ago so yes I didn't research this. The VQ's are pretty new to my and I am still new to this. I opened a thead about installing the altima headers but got no help so I just went on and did it. The smell is killing me right now and the noise made me want to hurt a baby. But I added the magnaflow resonator and the sound reduced drastically so i'm happier now than I was day before.

Where do you live? Emission testing done? I'm sure you have a Check engine light right now due to the headers correct?
After about two weeks the smell won't bother you but be warned, just because it becomes normal to you everybody else can still smell it very easily even just cruising on the highway. Depending on where you live and your laws concerning removing cats you can get some pretty LARGE fines if you get pulled over and the cop has a little knowledge on Modified cars. I've been pulled over a bunch of times and only one cop has mentioned it so far. Luckily I got no ticket for it because here in the NY the first offence is a $5,000 fine.

Awesome! Looking forward to the pics. So did you not have any res on there before?

As far as the smell goes.....I never had a smell, I wouldn't sweat it, probably just some burn off. I will say it's a little strong in the morning but once it warms up, no issues. Now we gotta race

Yeah it smells like crazy because the cars that trail me stay back a few car lenghts. But I'll get a magnaflow cat and see how much it reduces the smoke

Yeah there was a resonator but the care wasn't that big compare to the one I installed yesterday. What are you running on the 1/4mile? I'm still new to the racing so you'll have to give me a couple weeks or months to practice my launch and perfect shifts.

LOL j/k unless you live near Denver Co. I like what you've done to your car, you do it quickly. Did you happen to do any side by side with the other resonator?

As far as the smoke goes.....are you actually seeing visible smoke or you just talking about pollution.

Emissions: You have zero cats now right? You wont pass.
You should save your stock Y-pipe to put it back on when it time to test, you will pass fine.
If you put cat on there to run all the time, t won't last long. You probably running rich, so you will burn out a cat if you use it everyday.

Get a 02 simulator and that will kill the CEL.

NY does not do smog so you can cheat the inspection, but if a cop pull you over and get curious, the fine is hefty.

Wher were you before I did this mod? Lol. I swear if I knew of all this before I' probably wouldn't of gone through with it. Dark smoke, sometimes light blue, check engine light, hundreds of dollars, emissions failure, loud noise, panicing everytime I see a cop...etc. Oh well I still have the stock system for when I decide to reverse it

Nice on the headers, did you make another video after putting the bigger resonator on, I was like DAMN so loud had to turn the car back off, mine is pretty quiet even on cold days just loud on initial start up, but just sounds like I got a muffler on there but not a full exhaust...
