2007 Maxima SL Intake Suggestions

I really do not know what is the difference between types of cold air intake (Long, Short Ram), what name brand and model would you recommend? My car is automatic, will it still make a difference or is it only made for stick. Price Range? and Installing Price range?

Thank You

I also heard water can damage it, I live in NYC and it rain and snows. is Short ram better for me

Take a look at this link for cold air intake info:
http://www.aptuned.com/blog/cold-air...ifference.html

I have a Fujita CAI (Cold Air Intake) and it works great! It is the long type, and it is protected from rain in our Maxima by the lower body panels when using the long CAI. Short CAI's virtually eliminate the potential of Hydro-lock engine damage, but intake some of the heat produced by the engine. Colder air produces more HP so the choice is yours, SHORT CAI= Higher HP than stock filter with less water damage risk but intakes engine heat. LONG CAI= Higher water damage risk in certain conditions, but intakes the coldest air. For further rain protection you can get a Hydro Shield pre-filter which covers the air filter element and repels water without decreasing HP. However, driving through puddles or deep water must be avoided as it can cause hydro-lock which completely shuts down your engine. Hydro-lock is very expensive to repair and can be avoided by the addition of a air bypass valve which shuts down induction at the filter when it becomes submerged, rerouting air through its external diaphragm to keep water out and keeps air flowing in. The prices range from about $90 to $350 and installation cost between $40 and $80. However, installation is relatively simple and you may be able to install it yourself.

I hope this addresses your concerns.

There was just a thread started on this recently.....

Too add, Long CAI will give you gains in the upper RPM band whereas shorts will give you the gains down low.

I have a fujita CAI and it's been great although I'm seriously considering going short to regain some low band power.
