Looking at 2006 Maixima should I steer clear?

I am looking at 2006 Maxima SE with 68,000 miles. I keep reading horror stories about the transmission in these. Should I stay far away? I know I can not afford a new or rebuilt trans if it goes out. They are wanting $12,900 for it.

I have a 2006 SE, and if you wouldn't be able to afford to fix/replace the transmission (assuming it's the 5 speed auto) I say pass, especially at that price. I've dealt with blown precats, leaking lower AC hose, transmission failure, timing chain tensioners, pretty much most of the big things, and most of that was before 68k miles. Luckily I was still under warranty for all of it. I'm not saying that any of that will happen, but if I knew some of those things happen at a higher rate than normal then I'd look for another car.

If its manual, get it. Although, you will deal with with tensioners and a transmission problem eventually, if auto.
The price is a tad too high though.

It is a automatic. They are offering a 3 year 36000 mile aftermarket warranty.

I agree with everyone else and I wouldn't pay 13k for it. Unless there are records it has been well maintained and the condition is immaculate. The 3 years warranty seems reasonable but I would try and work the price down a bit. Other then that I just picked up an 05 and I like it so far.

Yeah I would stay clear of the auto, a lady that I work with has an 05 SE auto and has had many issues with it and she babies that thing.
