Possessed Sunroof

Possessed Sunroof
Anyone else here have an issue with their sunroof automatically (and randomly) opening by itself? I had this happen a few times the past week or so, and the slider switch would be still be in the "closed" position. I had to slide the switch all the way back to "open", then slide it close again in order for the stupid thing to close up.
Faulty switch perhaps?

yep, it's weird man. so far it's not doing it all that much, but hell...if it keeps randomly opening by itself I'll have to change out the switch or something.

yeah I've dealt with this before in my 08 max. Do you happen to have any subs? I think that mine started having issues only after i got my subs and stuff. I usually drive with my sunroof popped up and I always have my subs on 95% of the time. Usually what happens with mine is it will close automatically and then open completely on its own. I think I possibly have a faulty switch. For a couple of days my buttons actually stopped working and then randomly kicked back on.

We have had this happen our 2002 Maxima and just figured out how to repair our failure mode.
In our case, it was a zero / near-zero dollar repair. The 2002 / 2003 maxima switch consists of a slider that bridges a set of 5 contacts that are connected to different value resistors. These resistors tell the computer / controller what position is selected.
What happened is the original grease from Nissan separated and got into the electrical components, fouling up the connection. All you have to do is carefully disassemble the switch and wipe it down with iso-propyl alcohol and reassemble. I don't think any grease is necessary once clean, though a small amount added away from the electrical contact may be of benefit.

Excellent advice, I disassembled the switch wiped everything down with isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs put it back together and the sunroof works properly!
I have a 2003 Nissan Maxima and I was experiencing a similar problem. My sunroof would open by itself and the switch was intermittently working. Half of the time moving the switch did not cause the sunroof to move.
