Loud Air Compressor Sound?

Hey everyone,

I have a 2005 Maxima SE, and when I start the car up and turn the AC on, I get an extremely loud, high pitched "belt" type sound that lasts for several seconds and then goes away. I can press the "off" button for my AC fan and that will instantly kill the sound, but if I do this it'll end up making noise on acceleration for a few minutes after I start driving anyways.

Does anyone else have this problem or know what may be causing it?

Thank you!

Well is the AC cold and can you here the compressor cycling on and off? if so then I would say it's a loose or bad serpentine belt

thanks for the reply, the AC is cold and I can hear the compressor cycling on and off, so I'll definitely get the belt checked out. Thanks again.

OR it could be the compressor itself...have it checked out as well.
