U1000 error code 2004 maxima

Hello,

Thought I'd post to see if anyone can help me out on this. I got a code U1000 on the maxima. Hard code (can't clear it). I know its a communication problem with the CAN cable. Has anyone else had this issue and what was done to remedy it? I'm trying to troubleshoot myself but if I can't figure it out, to the stealership it goes. The car starts but jerks into reverse. Once in drive (1st gear) the car goes forward in slow motion even though I'm pressing the accelerator. I'm hoping it's not the ECM (ECU). If it is, are they interchangeable with other ECU's? I've seen some sold used for much less than the $950 the dealership is asking. The part number is 23710-8Y007. Any help is extremely appreciated.

Follow up - discovered that an aftermarket cam sensor was causing the U1000. I discovered this by replacing with and OEM sensor and the U1000 code cleared up. Drove fine for a day. Next morning U1000 reappears and car is in fail safe mode. Drove for a few minutes and viola, the codes dissappears and the car drives fine. Next couple of day, drives fine. This morning at startup U1000 reappears with car in failsafe. Drove for a few minutes and again, car starts running fine and SES shuts off. I spoke to a mechanic and was told that unless they diagnose the U1000 as it is happening, they really can't troubleshoot the problem. Short of driving around the mechanic shop until the U1000 reappears, I'm out of ideas. Anyone have any idea what the issue could be?

Not much help now but maybe later this week. Mine is having similar issues and I just replaced the crankshaft position sensor and cleared the SES light and P0335 code. However, I'm still getting a U1000 and C1130 codes. Taking it into a shop I trust for some troubleshooting on Thursday. It still shutdown with the new sensor so obviously I did not fix the whole problem.
2005 SL ~108k miles. Strut bar and CAI are the only mods.

Highly recommend replacing both Camshaft Position Sensors at the same time with only OEM sensors. This has been discussed before with the same problems.

Did that fix the problem because I'm throwing this code and my car won't start I thought its was because I moved my battery to the trunk ...

dont know if this will help anyone, but as said U1000 is a CAN issue. with the car off, put an ohmmeter on pins 6 and 14 of the DLC (OBDII connector). pin 6 is on the top row, 14 on the bottom. you should read close to 60 ohms, if you get 120 ohms theres an open in one of the CAN lines and thats why youre getting U1000

I have not rechecked the U1000 code but replacing both crank and cam sensors with OEM seems to have corrected the stopping problem.
