Transmission advice

On our 05 Maxima SL, over the past few weeks it has been starting to rev up b/t 2nd to 3rd gear and 3rd to 4th on occasion. Got 90K on the car now and i just did the first drain and fill on the car a couple weeks ago. fluid was very dark coming out and now has a rusty color. did not know you had to change it so often in these cars but gonna do another drain and refill soon to see if that helps. but coming home today it reved up to 5-6K before shifting and now the check engine light is on. so gonna get a code reader to see what thats all about, but has anyone else had the same issues with the transmission?

Yes. Welcome to the club. Make yourself comfortable, and allow me pull out a chair for you. The fault lies in the valve body. First thing you should do is get the code read and proceed from there. The most common fixes are the "shift kit" or complete valve body replacement. There has been plenty of debate on this forum about which is the better route to pursue but, if I were you, I would replace the valve body. I had my transmission rebuilt about 1 1/2 years ago, because it had other damage apart from the valve body. Even with occasional 'spirited driving,' it has been running well ever since. Keeping my fingers crossed.

ok i had read this thread during my searching and was hoping this was not me. So is the solution to get the shift kit mentioned and have it professionally installed?

A well informed opinion.
@OP, yeah at 90k miles, your tranny ( VB?) has reached the maturity age for a look-in.

an update, had the light checked and it pulled a p0780-Shift Malfuction code when i went to oreillys today. it hasn't done the misshifting too much, so wondering if i can just go with a shift kit option or have to shell out for a whole new valve body. anyone have a comparison b/t the two?
