06 Max throttle hesitation and rev after let off

Got a friend with a 06 Maxima with only 40k miles on it. It's a 6 speed manual. When accellerating (any gear it seems) it kinda hesitates or lags for a few seconds like it's not getting fuel, and then eventually goes like it should. Also when letting off the gas to shift gears the RPM's don't drop, almost like you kept your foot on it. It even revs up a few hundred RPM's most times.

Any ideas what the problem could be? I was thinking maybe pedal position sensor, but there's no check engine light. I'll see if I can get a scanner on it to double check.

It might be the pedal position sensor. CEL does not get triggered instantly, you might have symptoms without a CEL.

yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking.. just waiting to see if the light comes on.

just re-read my original post.

to clarify, when letting off the gas to change gears it revs up a bit for a couple seconds and then drops like normal.

Crankshaft sensor is a good candidate for this as well.
