2004 Maxima - Timing Chain Issues
Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum so please bare with me.
I own a 2004 Nissan Maxima it currently has about 42,000 miles on it. Recently when driving there is a very loud whining noise that increases in volume as I increase in speed.
I brought to two mechanics and they both told me the same thing that it is the timing chain, however on this car the timing chains should never have to be replaced.
I contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs to have them tell me I would have to have a certified Nissan mechanic "diagnose" the issue, fair enough, I did so as recomended at a cost of $125.00. Surprise surprise, their mechanic told me the same thing, it is the timing chain but he cant understand why since it should never have to be changed on this vehicle?
After receiving a call on a Friday, I called back every hour on the hour all day Friday and Monday to finally get a call back from consumer affairs saying they will not be doing anything for me as this is a "regular maintenance" on the vehicle. I argued the fact that his own mechanic JUST TOLD ME it was not a regular maintenance.
Anyone have any suggestions or had similar experience with Nissan? Is there anything I can do, I have asked for a call back from another manager at this point.

You will find many of us who has gone through that timing chain issue. Damn, I can't even give you any advice other than a lot of us been through it before. Had mines replaced by dealership months ago around 78,000 miles. I had sleepless nights on how I was going to pay for that repair. I've put some of my tax return aside for this issue when it arises again...cause with this generation of Maximas, it will come again. Your only luck would be if Manager is willing to work with you...but it will still be expensive. Start looking for a quality mechanic who can do the work for cheap/cheaper. Initially, the dealership told me $2,700. Spoke to Manager who found a way for the job to be done just a "lil bit" lower.
