Remove Film on Chrome?

I'm not exactly sure if this a is a protective film over the chrome that was supposed to be removed but never was or what exactly it is.

I have taken two pictures showing what I'm talking about. You will notice shiny chrome in a few places but the rest is covered by film or something of some sort.

forget it. disassemble, clean with acetone, and paint over it with krylon black. you will never get those good looking or be able to peel that plastic crap properly. I tried.

How long did it take you? And did you use anything to peel it off or just by hand?

It takes a while depending on how bad they are the bubbled spots come right off but the other spots take a lot of picking and peeling I just used a razor blade

wasnt worth it to me because the chrome was not good looking under the plastic. Why peel to reveal crap.... if yours look good that might be something else.
I painted mine more than a year ago and they still look good.

You're better off leaving them on the car and as is, not worth the time or effort to take those off especially if you break them. I took mine off and painted them, that chrome crap was a $itch to take off and them painted don't even look that great. I know I am going to have to take off at least $100 to whom ever buys my car so they can get a new set. Not Nissans best with these

Thanks for the help guys. I think for now I'm just going to ignore it but in the future if it really starts to bug me I'll do something about it.

I tried to peel to paint, but I ended up, after many hours of swearing, being able to peel only half or so. And then I had the brilliant idea to sand those, and then I made it worse. And then I used some black epoxy, and then some more sanding, to finally paint that thing black.
In the end, the job looks average, and it would have looked 10x better if I had just left them with the plastic on, clean with acetone, and paint with krylon right over the plastic.

My suggestion: remove from the car, clean with acetone, and paint right over it.
Not worth the hassle to prep, trust me, will take you 8 hours and it will still look like ****.... Do whatever you want though and report on it, at least we'll get one more opinion.

^........ This. Just use the black out take man. That painting stuff is too time consuming. I've installed the blackout tape on mine about 2yrs ago and it's still holding up strong without any cracking, been through winter and I only paid like $15 for two rolls
