Possibly Buying an 06 Maxima

Hi guys, im new to the forum.

I was looking into buying a Maxima and found an 06 Max with 141k miles for $7000. I test drove it and everything was very smooth. It is a 1 owner vehicle and the car fax has all the service records.

brakes are good, tires are good, only problems were cosmetic; few small spots on the hood where paint was peeling off

is it worth buying it? i dont want to buy it them have some crazy issues pop up.

$7,000 can buy you a better car elsewhere. You are setting yourself up to pay a lot more money with this car at that price.

Don't know if 7k is good or not, however with that high of mileage and the visual wear n tear those are concerns that would cause me to look deeper, under the hood. Bring it to a mechanic or have a mechanic go see it - pay him if you think it's worth it.

Point being the wear n tear items to me are cosmetic changes including changing the oil to make it appear all good at first, so just be weary.

I have real estate background. You can always tell how good a house is maintained visually/structurally by going into the basement. Same thing with a car IMO.....good luck!

yeah the milage is quite high for a newer model car. I only need it to run for another 40-50k miles, do you guys think it will last that long? I also found an 02/03 with 76k miles for the same price

I think the price should be lower than it is. Do you have a link or anything about the car you are interested in?

I picked up an 04 last Oct with 138K miles on it for $5600. Right now Im currently at 151K. The guy was wanting $6500 but the book value and how I come up with making my deals when i buy wasnt it. So we was able to work something out and I get to use the Max as my commuter car.

I mean I'm all for the 6thgen because it's newer, stronger, more durable and have a lot of potential but 7K for a car that's almost 10yrs old is kinda crazy. I wouldn't pay no more than 4k not because of mileage but that of age. The value of these Maxima's dropped drastically and it's crazy how dealers still trying to sell them like they came out 5yrs ago.

Look around and find one cheaper or if you plan to spend that much money get the Elite package with all the features like memory seat and steering wheel, rear automatic visor, Panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel and that cool feature where you can hold your unlock button and have all your windows go down. IMO the 6spd would be your best bet and from experience the tranny won't fail you.

The problem is that the 6th gen Maxima, especially the 2004-2005-2006 years are known all over the place to have issues, reviews are mostly not good and there's the tranny issues. The 6th gen resale value is purely retarded as **** because of this.

Also because of this, you've got a **** ton of 6th gen Maximas on the used car market, they're all over the place. $7000 is def way too high for a 6th gen with that kind of mileage, and thing is they're just not worth that kind of $$ due to the known issues, the 6th gen has been hampered by this horrid problem.

There's a 6th gen (2005) for sale in my area with 60k miles on it for $9500k and it's at a good Nissan dealership (not a small used car dealer where all cars have problems). Me and my boy went to look at that car, my boy was thinking of buying it, he drove it and then I drove it, and he didn't notice it but I definitely knew the tranny was slipping 2nd-3rd. Horrible, this was a MT also, and I heard if you can find a 4AT in that car it's actually good (same trans as 5th gen, I have it and can't complain one bit it's butter smooth).

Final word, I paid $7k for my car which is a 5th gen, bought it with basically 60k on it from an old man, one owner in perfect condition, when I bought it the car was 12yrs old. Private sale too, which is way less $$ than dealership. My advice would be to find an 02-03 5.5 gen with 6MT, which is probably the most sought after Max out there. And if you can't find a good one, I would still take a 4AT 5th or 5.5 gen over the 6th gen every time.

sounds like a full retail price to me. I would stay away from an 06 with that many miles. If you really like the 6th gen, get a 2007, they hold up much better.
