Headlights shutting off 04 Maxima

04 maxima, drivers side light goes out. If I turn switch to parking then back on, light had been coming back on. Now both lights are randomly turning off, and this method doesn't always turn them back on, nor will high beams come on. The parking lights stay on. Help!! Can't be flying blind!

If the fuses were blown the lights wouldn't work, period. HID lights off driver side momentarily, turn switch to park and they go back on. Pulled inner fender to see if light assembly in secure, nothing flopping. No water in lights. Switch on column common to both sides, only one side goes out 90% of the time. Either over heating, not sure. Happens mostly when cold or damp. Possibly control module. Called dealer, said bring it in, never heard of it, maybe they could find problem, I'm thinking they have no clue and want to replace both HID assemblies and the control switch and there goes my Holiday money. Was hoping the Maxima world could help. This is my third Maxima, if you count my Datsun 810, but my fave was my '95.

Headlights

Going to change the ballast to see if that's the problem, will post and let you know but can't get to it until Christmas week when I have two days off in a row. The ballast is under the headlight, but to get to everything and make sure ground wire, bulbs everything tight, have to pull inner fender and front bumper.

Headlights

I neglected to mention that I am not getting a headlight out warning on the dash, so there is still power coming through.

I never even knew that there is a headlight out warning light on the dash. LOL.

Pulling the front bumper is pretty easy, IMO. I did it a couple of months ago to replace the foglights. Makes it really easy to get to the lights.

On a 94 max, that I use to own, one of the headlights would come on by itself. Turned out to be a copper reed switch in the column. I sprayed it with some TV turner cleaner. I would not manually try to clean these, assuming this is the same type of sw used on your car, you don't want to bend these reeds. There was some pictures in these forums on how to access this sw.

How old are the bulbs? HIDs fail eventually.

Just bought an 04 Maxima for my Girlfriend and have this exact same issue. Plan on removing bumper today and checking connections. I agree it would have been great if the OP had posted the fix.
If anyone has anything to add, it would be much appreciated.

04 maxima light problems

Okay so I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima and the other day the driver side headlight went out so I tried wiring in a new HID light with the little Palace thing on it and it worked for about 20 minutes then it went out then I heard that maybe if I switched the passenger light with the driver side light and the driver light with the passenger light it would fix the problem well when I took out the driver side light bulb it got broke somehow so I don't have that one so I just tried to wire in that HID light and that failed too so then I put the passenger light in the driver light and then I just wired in that HID light on the passenger side like I did on the driver side and they both worked for about 30 minutes and now both of them went out so now I have no headlights and I don't know what the problem is my fuses are fine the ballasts and everything are fine cuz I pulled apart everything and just don't understand why they keep failing and it seems like everybody's had this problem with this car is there any way to fix it is it just that the wiring harnesses got a faulty ground somewhere or I don't know sorry for the lengthy message but I'm just lost for words I don't know what to do my girlfriend right now is stranded outside somewhere that I don't even know because the headlights don't work so
