2004 V6 MAXIMA HELP -noise -Ping 2004 Maxima -Noise Ping? Looking for answers Hi
This site contains great info and help with nissan, thought I could ask for help with my 2004 V6 Maxima, have tried many other places but cannot pin point the problem. My maxima has travelled 230,000km, have owned it for over 4 years, still drives well with plenty of power, never misses a beat, runs smooth, has never broken down.
But has developed a noise in the past 6 months, maybe longer which sounds like a 'ping' or 'rattle' under light and heavy throttle, usually after 1500 revs.
Have read lots of fixes and similar problems online, but more confused than ever. Thought it maybe be timing chain, but never get any rattle on start up, or any consistent noise.
I have tried different oils, use premium fuel, but have never changed the spark plugs yet, as it is a major job. And tried fuel additives.
I have read it could be a "knock sensor' MAF sensor" "throttle body"etc
Hope to get some HELP here to point me in the right direction.
Was going to start with plugs, as I have never changed them.
Thanks for Reading, any help greatly appreciated

Yeah from what I learned/researched/read a ping/knock noise could be
A. Knock Sensor
B. Timing Chain/Tensioner
C. Low Qaulity Gas
D. Combination of one or the other or ALL
E. Something Else
What Octane gas do you use?
What Oil weight do you use?
Do you have any check engine lights?

Don't think it is Timing Chain
Hi thanks for the reply. Here in adelaide weather has been very hot lately, over 40 degrees, but I have had this problem in all weather.
Firstly, I have always used 95 or 98 premium fuel here.
I have tried 10w30 synthetic Mobil, and had problems with using/burning oil, so have changed to a semi-synthetic 10w40
I still use some oil from time to time, apparently it is very commom with this engine and expected with 233,000km on the clock.
I should just put up with the pinging noise but it is getting worse, really want to get to the bottom of it, starting to drive me nuts...
I do not think it is the timing chain, not any rattle at idle or when i take foot off the pedal. Only seems to make noise when power is on or under load.
Which leads me back to the spark plugs.
again thanks for your help
And definately no engine lights, never had one since owning the car
