Transmission fluid change or not

A month before I purchased my ride Nissan replaced the transmission I bought it 1/28/2011 with 65000 miles on it as of 1/20/2014 I have 92000 miles.

Some say do a tranny flush change at 30,000 some say changing the fluid can actually cause the transmission to fail. In the very beggining when I bought it i'd always feel a lurch at low speed when coming to a stop.

Sometimes when going from 2nd to 1st gear 5speed auto. It hasn't done it in a while yall think I should have the fluid changed?Name: 100_8767_zps13301f5e.jpg

Shouldn't be that bad but as far as i know every 2 to 3 years for tranny fluid and filter and iv'e heard flushes can cause issues on higher mileage vehicles clogging valve bodies. I have a 3rd gen. no filter just drain and fill but when i wanted to run clean fluid and switch to an amsoil synthetic i did a drain and fill about 3 times over 6 monthes or so. Usually when you do a fluid change you get 4 litres out of it while the other 4 litres is still in the torque converter. Fluid capacity obviously depends on the vehicle. I believe thats why people do flushes to get all the old fluid out while pumping new fluid in in one shot instead of doing it the way i did. Iv'e just heard that depending on how old the fluid is or the condition of the tranny flushes can push any sedement in there into the valves causing issues. So i guess it all depends on how often the flushes are done. Just check your fluid to see if it's a pinkish colour or if it's starting to get a little brownish.

yes change it.

It's only been 30K, so you're likely fine. Do a few drain and fills over a week and you'll be good to go.

Pre-Owned. It's fully loaded (navi, heated seats, heated mirror, memory seats, etc etc) minus bluetooth.

I felt first thud in tranny at around 110K or 120K miles. Before that I was doing drain refill every 25k or something like that. After first jerk in tranny I do drain and refill every 10k miles. It literally take 30 minutes of my time and 50-60 bucks for fluid. Lots of folks went through valve body way to fix jerking issue however mine held up fine with simply drain and refill.

However my next plan is to swap 3 solenoids in valve body by myself. Waiting for warmer weather. I stopped driving maxima for over a year since I got into infiniti. However recently wife reported cat issue in maxima so I am back on maxima so she can have infiniti.

KevMaster Yours doesn't have bluetooth you must have an 04 'these cars are hard to find with a nav mine has it. That famous thud I used to feel that when coming to a stop when I first bought it this was with a new transmission put it but I haven't felt it in a long time knock on metal.

How do yall like the Infiniti vs the Max I was looking at a Lexus GS or an Infiniti M56 for a side car and keep the Maxima. I'm scared to mess with this transmission fluid I have a feeling it's gonna go out on me if I do!

I love infiniti because of real wheel drive. I never had lexus so I can't comment. I can not compare infiniti with maxima because both has it's own move. I like them both. Yes mine is 04 with nav and first owner actually built and ordered from nissan instead of buying from dealer. It was heck of a cheap deal when I bought it at under 40k miles from him.

Just make sure you pour in exactly what comes out. Drain and refill shouldn't be a problem since you are only draining less than half of total tranny fluid. Reflush = big no no and stay away from it. I use empty water gallon plastic jug and mark them at every half qt with marker. This way I know how much is coming out when I drain fluid. I add exactly the same amount back in. That's all it need.

I certaintly do appreciate you guys thoughts and inputs transmission is the word that comes out of everyones mouth being a 6th gen owner. I have heard many different views on changing the tranny fluid some say its safe every 30K some say its risky.

I do a drain and fill every year, and it keeps it running fine.

when I bought it at 60000 KM, it was rough, did it 3x, and then 1x 1 month later, and since that, I do it once a year, and I have never had another issue with it, and it's been 5 years and 120 000 more km

Do what you want, I change mine.

What's these stories I hear of people with 6th gens who replace the transmission then it goes out again i've heard that a couple of times made me wonder if that had to do with fluid changes.

I changed the transmission fluid on few different Maximas that I have owned at very high miles and never had a single problem. I would say change it. The transmission will be fine.

tosheto You're a 5th gen owner you know what's good about those you'll never have a single problem out of one of them. My neighbor has a 2000SE 14 years never had a problem. With the 6ths you gotta be careful!

Drain and fill 2 or 3 times, driving about 10 miles between changes. DO NOT flush this tranny, it will cause problems you don't want. There are no filters to change, making this the EASIEST tranny fluid change I have everdone.

Keep in mind changing the fluid and flushing the transmission are not the same thing.

If you avoid anything, for peace of mind sake, forgo the transmission flush.

But change your fluid every 30K miles.
