6th engine swap

Would it be possible to swap out the VQ 3.5 from an 04-06 Max with the VQ 3.5 303HP from a 2010 Infiniti M? The M's transmission is 7 Speed AT. Imagine if Nissan had taken the 6.5 gen and given it a 300HP 7speed AT as a mid cycle update the 6th gen would be in a good place with that even to this day.

Here are the Specs on the M

3,498 cc 3.5 liters V 6 front engine with 95.5 mm bore, 81.4 mm stroke, 10.6 compression ratio, double overhead cam, variable valve timing/camshaft and four valves per cylinder VQ35HR

The Max Specs
3,498 cc 3.5 liters V 6 front engine with 95.5 mm bore, 81.4 mm stroke, 10.3 compression ratio, double overhead cam, variable valve timing/camshaft and four valves per cylinder VQ35

Umm I believe the M series are all rear wheel drive. Wait for the 8th gen and swap that motor in.

po8pimp For some reason I always thought the 2nd gen M and the 6gen Max were the same car just different names. The 8th gen Maxima that engine probably wont be compatible for a 6th gen for alot of reasons.

that won't work due to rear wheel/ all wheel drive transmission.

Or should I say, it could work but would be very expensive.

Ya you would have a heck of a time with those throttle bodies in FWD.

swap on a 6th gen intake/tb? would that work? or perhaps a kinetix racing one to improve the flow? it will work if FWD and RWD blocks are cast the same, then its just a matter of swapping FWD stuff onto the RWD motor (accessories, flywheel, motor mounts, etc

6th gen VQ35DE
M Series, VQ35HR

RWD vs FWD info, mostly on the DE series of both RWD & FWD: http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor/5...s-lengthy.html

Dual MAF/TB > than our single inlet IM's any day, and that also means the Kinetix. Also, HR has CVTC on both I & E cams. With that last part said, it would turn into a bear to account for those items and get the most out of it toe ven think about making it worthwhile.

The best thing for us at the current moment is to swap in a 7th gen engine. Far easier, and very beneficial (300+ whp with typical bolt ons and some tuning).

for a 7th gen swap, anything else have to be done besides swapping motor? do you have to swap or tune the 6th gen ECU? my car is an 06 6spd, would i just swap over flywheel/clutch and obvious things and be good to go?

You will almost always need an ECU when swapping engines. I recommend finding a shop near you or a friend who has done this before. Figuring it out from scratch is not impossible, just gonna be painful lessons learned that could be avoided. Mounting and trans matchup are the most important. Most other stuff can either be rewired, or relocated to fit. Good luck and if you do manage this, I recommend doing a complete writeup for others. Also might want to post this in the Tech section http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor-61/ . Here is some good reading on the FWD vs RWD differences in the VQ35DE motor to give you an idea of what you would be looking at for a swap. http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor/5...s-lengthy.html

It can't be all that different for a 6th gen.

I dont know how you are having those problems when it doesn't matter if the motor came out of a auto maxima.

I don't know either. I called the dealership since their "experts" and they said that the only thing that should be changed is the pressure plate. but the guy I have installing it is having other issues
