Bent my rim on a pot hole. Can this be straightened with a hammer or do I need a pro to do it.
thanks

I hit them with a dead blow to get them most of the way back to normal. They usually leak after this so I put bead sealer on the rim.

Theoretically, one of two things could go wrong.
1. you hit it with the hammer and it cracks. Rim is then scrap
2. you succeed in getting it back to normal and then it explodes going down the road.

I can't give you odds but I've done about 5 this way without issue. My wife is drawn to potholes

steel rims you can smack with a hammer yourself and bend them back. alloys i wouldnt screw around with and take them to get repaired properly

I just thought of Clarkson, I can mend anything! You need a good rim repair shope since it's not steel like suggested.

I would take it to a shop or find a replacement at the local junk yard.

I went to my body shop, he told me a insurance company would have the rim in that condition repaired. Had it done, been a few weeks and no leaks.
