fuel additives

About a week ago I added a bottle of STP gas treatment. I start my car the next morning and I hear a loud rattle/knock. So I back out of the driveway and there's milky brown oil/water dripping from my exhaust. I shut the car down and I get a strong pee smell from the engine. I checked the coolant, the oil,the radiator, the transmission fluid didn't see anything unusual

So then I drive and I get delayed acceleration from the throttle and I hear a rattle sound when I tap. Like paper stuck in a fan. I went to the gas station filled up at half a tank and noticed the problems gradually dissapearing. I know yall are good at figuring out stuff that's why I made a post about it!

Many gas cleaner actually clean your injectors, with the time there are a lot of dirt that stick to them.
On the label, it should be written that you need to fill up your tank so that the product work well.
For the pee smell, I did mine 2 months ago and it smelled like a mix of fish and pee, its the dirt that burn.

moudmah1 The side effects of this stuff had me thinking this car was gonna break down on the highway It was fully when I added the additive but I went and refueled at half a tank and the problem subsided, that stuff is suppose to do all of this so that explains why my garage smelled like a monkey's A--.

The worst part was when I got that mixture leaking from the tailpipe tan oil substance I really didn't know what was going on. I didn't it was the effect of the fuel treatment i'm thinking this is a head gasket problem because at this point i'm oblivious of the additive.

Yea, fuel additives have a tendency to cause stumbles and smells like that when used. That is usually a sign, in my experience, that they're doing their job. However, I would caution against using them all the time. Some additives and injector cleaners have been known to eat seals and cause leaks.

Also, the best stuff in the world to use, again my opinion and experience, is SeaFoam. A little more expensive than STP or others but it is for a reason. Very good stuff.

Uh, not seafoam from the ocean, SeaFoam from the store in the fuel additives and chemicals section. White can, clear plastic top with a child safety mechanism like on a gas can. Costs about $7 a can I think. You can pour the whole can if you want. I usually do a half can for two tanks in a row to use it all. I have also been known to drop 1/3 of a can through the brake booster hose a day or two before changing the oil. Works wonders and gives a nice smoke show in the process. Lol.

It's unlikely that you will see a huge gain in MPG from any fuel additives. The key is that they keep the engine and/or it's components clean and free flowing. If your fuel lines are badly gunked up, then cleaning them up will probably improve things quite drastically, otherwise I wouldn't count on a massive increase in power or fuel economy. Just count on the satisfaction of having a clean engine.

It sounds like you didn't follow the directions on the fuel additive. They always say to add the additive when you're low on gas and are at the gas station, so that a full tank of gas is mixed with it.

LOL at getting seafoam from the sea.

Do you use premium fuel and the recommended high octane?

IMO, all fuel additives are snake oil. Research the web and you'll see.

The Wizard I use nothing else but premium shell since the day I bought it, turns this thing into a rocket even though I don't drive it like one. I get in there and take it easy can't afford to have speeding tickets on my driving or flying record. And if I were to get stranded for using regular in the middle of nowhere out here in Texas the only way home is on a cow.
