My 2007 Nissan Maxima has a loud whistling sound. Standing outside it sounds as if there was a hole in the tire and air was escaping. At highway speeds and slower speeds, the car runs great but does have this whistle, air moving noise. While the car is idling, it continues to whistle and runs rough. It shakes and acts like it wants to die. On acceleration, the whistle stops until you are at speed then it returns.

 

check for any vacuum leaks and see if your air filter piping is properly secured

 

Listening to this under the hood, the noise seems to be coming from the passenger side, behind the motor. I failed to mention that I also had the service engine soon light comes on. I do know the noise can throw you off on where it is. I suppose back to a mechanic to figure it out, get light off and trade it off.
