Idle Speed

Idle Speed
I just did an intro post and indicated I do not have any indication of chain tensioner issues. I wanted to ask about idle speed on the Maxima's of our generation. In the very cold temps, 0-10F the idle speed gets up there. Pretty common for a car I know, but seemed a little high.
Normal for the 3.5??

Normal for all modern day cars in that when cold, the idle is a bit higher in an attempt to reduce emissions in that the higher the idle, the faster the pre-cats are warmed up, which then allow them(pre-cats) to work more efficiently at removing uglies from the exhaust at a faster rate until the vehicle comes to operating temperature.
What does it regulate at when the car is at operating temp?
MT: 625±50 RPM
4AT: 700±50 RPM
5AT: 675±50 RPM
In P or N w/ AC on 825 or more.

If you have access to a Cipher/UpRev tuner, you can adjust it somewhere in the +/- 50 RPM range. Seems as if you may need to do the IACV re-learn procedure. That’s a little high though, mine did that and had to do that(IACV/Throttle relearn procedure) a few times and it went back to normal.
The Cipher is a nice tool and it will tell you why, should tell you why, your idle is so high.

I posted something similar to your post, RPM surge no replies.
I did some research of my own, and found Idle re-Learn. I would
Idle between 800 rpm & 1,200 rpm. After doing the re-Learn everything
Went back to normal. Hope you make out!
