Noise while turning.

I have a 2007 Maxima SE. I have front end noise and i want to gather more information before i bring it any where for service. The noise is heard when turning the wheel from side to side and when hitting speed bumps. i have about 70,000 miles on the Maxima. The noise can be heard while parked. Here is a link of the sound. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Link isn't working. How are you getting the noise while parked pushing down on on the fender?

I fixed the link in the original post. I an hear the noise while parked and turning the steering wheel. I can also hear it while driving at low speed when the wheel moves left or right. Here is the working link.

That almost sounds like it's coming from the steering column and not the rack. Does it seem to he coming from right under you?

I am honestly not sure. I have went out to the engine and had someone turn it and i don't hear nothing by the engine or the wheel. I only can hear the sound while inside the car with the radio off and AC off. I really don't want to go to the stealership! Any recommendations on how to figure out what it could be?

it sure sounds to me to be in the steering column. You need to find a mechanic you trust or someone good with cars to isolate that sound. You need to pin it down to where its coming from.

I'm having the same problem. It's like a knocking noise when I turn the wheel to get out the parking spot at a slow speed. After that, the noise go's away. Question. Do I need a steering shaft for both left and right? Or does one control both sides? Might as well just change it now even if that's not the problem, just in case that part gives out in the future.

You may have a CV joint issue, does it do it when you turn corners? Again as with the other gentleman you need to isiolate and find out exactly where the sound is coming from. If you need to get a friend to stand outside the car while you turn the wheel and give it gas.

No. Just makes that thumping sound when I'm turning the wheel out of a parallel parking spot without pressing down on the acceleration. After that, the noise goes away. Seems it does it when the car is cold. If I drive for a while, park the car, then later get back in the car after I finish what I'm doing and get out of a parking spot, it doesn't make the noise....strange

When its cold in the morning do you feel the steering rack harder to turn or binding up? Again you have to either get your car on a lift and check the suspension. If you have a good jack you can do it yourself.

It actually does feel a bit stiff. Then it loosens up after a couple of minutes of driving. Any ideas?

Yeah. That's what one of my friends said it might be. I have brought it to two shops to fix other things and both told me my power steering pump needs to be replace. But that can't be the reason for the thumping noise.....could it?

No that will give you a whining noise at the pump. IMO at this point I would take it to a mechanic you trust. If you do indeed need a PS pump let them do the job and while it's on the lift have them check motor mounts, all suspension etc. Thump noise can be a motor mount a bad strut etc. Only way you are going to get to the bottom of it.
