Hey everyone! I have an '05 Maxima that has hard shifting from 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd (but rarely).
The valve body has already been replaced and that did not seem to fix the issue.
No AT Check, or Check Engine Light
No other Trans issues as far as I can tell.
What's weird though, is the previous owner gave me all the mechanic receipts, and it shows the fluid was changed less then 15k ago.
Linked below is what the fluid looks like now.
Any thoughts as to what it could be?
I'm gonna bring her in relatively soon, to get a flush and a diagnostic done. I just wanna make sure I don't get screwed and be out money that doesn't fix the problem.
This was for a 4th gen, but I had bad shifts at low throttle over about a 6 month period where shifting from 1st to 2nd would only happen at 2000 rpm and with a jolt, which eventually became 2700, then 3500, then 4000 and then one day it wouldn't shift out of 1st until 6000 rpm!! After that 6000 day I finally got a code for the TPS. Replaced it and boom, instantly all was fixed.

Thank you for that! I looked it up and the TPS's aren't that expensive and it's something I could do right here at home. So i'm gonna keep looking around, but before I do anything to expensive that's something I'd try.

The systems in the 4th Gen and the 6th gen are not exactly the same. There's no TPS (throttle position switch) in the 6th Gen. There is a throttle position sensor all right, but it's integrated into the throttle body. I'd suggest you get a tool that can scan the transmission, not just an obd tool. Has the issue been there since the valve body change some 15k miles ago? Was the valve body oem or rebuilt?
One more thing: check the TCM pin terminals for damage or loose connection with the harness connector.
