Carlos-G did his thing again, made the car appealing to older and richer crowd.
now i think 290 is a good hp figure for this one and comparing the maxima to the wrx-sti-mazda speed. is just far off those are econoboxes turn into turner cars with turbos those cars are much lighter and the people who buy those wouldn't really be shoping for a maxima at the same time.

some take 4DSC way TOO seriously.

you should look up the real definition of Sports Car.

well they are more or less in the same price range even though cars are very different, and most people look at what they get for their money.
as 350z, max buyers and Z buyers totally different group they dont cross shop.
maxes in the past have been faster than some Z cars, year for year, it would be nice if the 7gen was faster than an auto 350Z.

I know an MT 4th gen was faster than the NA 300ZX and could give the AT turbo 300zx a run for there money but eventually lose to it, but they are still sports cars, the parts on those car stand-up to the abuse of hard driving better than the max, but i think i get what Ur saying now

I think the best thing to do would be play around with the tranny get better ratios make the tranny itself more efficient of getting the power to the ground as well as keeping torque steer to a minimum, while i find it fun to torque steer sometimes the car still has to sell, and torque steer in a car that tags luxury on itself is not taken while

the 6th gen is faster than the 350Z.

i saw for myself at the track. I consistently ran better times than the Z. stock for stock the maxima is lighter with similar #s.

Us, the forum guys, should be offered a special discount when we buy a new Maxima. Don't you think so?

I think the BMW forums have something like that.

did U let the 4DSC go to Ur head as well?

with random drivers on the track im not suprised but the Z is faster than a max stock for stock thats a fact

the Z is also lighter the 03s were 3101lbs, the 04-05 models gained 100lbs but thats still 3200lbs, the +06 were heavy but still lighter by 30lbs at 3400lbs dead, these are all the track models the heaviest out of them all the lightest 6th gen is the 04-05 MTs at 3436lbs

another thing i think Nissan made the max purposely slower than the Z if not make the Z purposely faster than the max, like i said earlier it would be pointless to have a max faster than a Z

the 6th gen is heavier and slower than a Z...same applies to the 6th gen vs 5th gen

track times dont mean anything unless its the same driver

3432 vs 3217 with 22 more hp.
I ran 14.5 all day at 3625lbs. others have gotten lower. yes a driver makes a difference, but for how much smaller and 22 more hp, the stock 03 Z should never lose to a Maxima let alone staying around 15 sec.

but don't the different trims have different performances? a base Z performed very close to the heavy boat 6th gen.

nah a stock max cant beat a stock Z just the 0-60 time should prove that

6th gen: 6.4
350Z: 5.4

These are C&D test results, the max is not going to make up that time in the 1/4 it makes less pwr and its heavier and FWD if u beat one on the track good job but fact is that the 350Z is a faster car

then anyone would simply join...
I say previous owners discount is mo betta

regardless, dealers dislike the org. the knowledge is power from the org. "you have no idea what's wrong? here this TSB should help you fix it under my warranty."

any discount would just become void when talking down the price anyway.

Dealerships don't dislike TSB's, actually they love them since they get paid directly from Nissan Corporate office. Ask the Manager at the Service Dept. or any Management at the dealership and you'll find out The Truth.

The people who dislike the org are the service advisors, they hate us to get there and we have more info than what they know (or are supposed to know since they should read all these info before we get there).

that's exactly what i meant
they generally dislike warranty work and avoid it. with our knowledge, they can't play dumb.... just look dumb.

Goodness! How did this thread degenerate into power and racing and elapsed times. Race cars and pocket rockets and sports cars and sports sedans are four distinct and different types of vehicles. Trying to compare vehicles of one type to vehicles of another may be interesting to some folks, but has absolutely zilch to do with rating a new vehicle or evaluating a vehicle against other vehicles IN ITS CATEGORY.

As a sports sedan, the most important characteristic the '09 Maxima MUST have is to be a really great road-handling car. Everything else is secondary. After reading over Nissan's long list of changes that affect handling, I am willing to bet the '09 is the best handling Maxima yet. Which, in my mind, means it will be the best 4DSC Maxima has ever built.

Getting back to MaximusMorpheus's thread-starting post, I think the writer he referenced is probably blowing smoke. He has the same misconception many other folks have: that a sports sedan must have a manual tranny. That could have been considered the mantra for half a century, but not in the third millenium. The time is coming when there will be few if any mass-produced passenger cars with manual trannies. The fast-improving MPG of CVTs, increasing pressure on manufacturers to improve fleet MPG, and spreading highway congestion will eventually have the manual remaining only in very limited-production sports cars such as the Corvette.

Yes, like many others, I will miss the manual tranny. But then I also miss steam locomotives, tires with tubes in them, prop-driven airliners, back yard toilets, horse-drawn buggies and short-wave radio. We must accept that time passes and things change. We each must change or be left behind.

Nissan has F'd this car up. The back looks like a Camry. No one can deny that. This car is not sexy anymore and it doesn't have it's own unique look. It looks like several car made into one. The interior is nice though. I love the steering wheel. So yes I am disappointed. Maybe I will like it better in person and in a different color.

To those who say the back end looks like a camry, look closely. The bulbous end of the 2009 is more of an evolution of the 6th gen Maxima's rear-end. Just look at the trunk and bumper.

The look of it exceeded my expectations, from the pics it doesn't look like a boat. The inside is alright, i'm not a fan of the round vents and red piping but everything else looks awesome.
The front end almost looks r34ish shapewise, I like it. And the photoshop of it dropped makes it look really good. Not really feeling the headlight's but I can live with them. My next car would either be a Camry SE or one of these. Pricewise i have a feeling the camry will be easier on my wallet. But I would defintely consider this max!
