g35 sedan vs 7th gen
Easy Decision
I looked very very closely at both, down to final prices on similarly equipped cars. Of course you cant get the same items on a G37 as a Max but the things that sold me on the Max were the following:
1) Interior space-even though I drive solo 90% of the time, I like a car with some space. The G is way too small
2) The looks. As said before, the G is like the modern day Taurus in terms of how common they are
3) CVT-yup I love it. It is so smooth and nice to drive the CVT....
in case you are interested, it was a $1400 difference in my low price bid-Max Premium & Tech package vs G37 with Tech

Eh... traded in my '04 SE for a 2010 G37xS sedan... the '04 was my 4th Maxima I've ever had, and it was just time to move on. I like the 7th gen Maxima, but I like the G37 more... sure there are a lot on the road... all the more reason to make mine different!
All of which explains why I'm jonesing for a G37S 6MT Sedan. It's a sleeper. Unique, and special, and Joe Citizen wouldn't have a clue.
Oh, and RWD. God how I miss RWD...
Rear wheel drive fans have no business even looking at a Maxima. Neither do front wheel drive fans have any business looking at rear wheel drive vehicles. I drove RWD cars from 1949 until 1984 (yes; 35 years), but have been very impressed by the pragmatic efficiency and driving characteristics of FWD. I know I will never go back to RWD.
Wasn't me, man. I just came in with the tide.
Light, that's too absolute. It's possible to appreciate the values of both configurations, and AWD too, given the right implementation.

My opinion
go buy a G35/37 for the price i got my max $27,780 (contract proof).
Personally i think my max looks better then any g35 sedan that Ive seen so far....
might not be faster (according to you people)
AT/CVT whatever auto is auto to me (i never rip it on D anyway), but i deal with it.....cant complain i have 50,000 on the clock and it runs great....
I wouldn't mind testing a g35 sedan because a lot of people saying the 7th gen is slower then g35 sedan (according to you)
Your opinion:
Doesn't matter....
G35 is a nice car but infinti is priced higher then a nissan would
be... isnt worth it in my opinion considering the fact CVT is warrantied for 120,000 miles now.....eek...

The way I see it, G sedans for 07 and Up have absolutley no personality, for some reason their design doesnt float my boat, lol. I wouldnt get a G unless its a coupe, I know for a fact I dont have 600 bucks to spare a month for a g37 coupe. Anyways, the Maxima is more practical, and I wouldnt take any car over it, not even a g37 coupe, bc Im in love with this car!
I purchased mine due to the ride quality, space, size and cost. I certainly love the qualities of a rear wheel drive car but all the ones I like are a little too expensive plus the interest rate is great. I did a test drive of both though and I was pretty disappointed in how harshly the G handled road imperfections. As much as it gets compared to a 3 series BMW, I can see why the 3 wins out most of the time. In terms of looks, I think they both look great.
Meh. One man's interpretation of harshness is another man's coveted feel for the road. The 7th gen Maxima's ride is definitely softer than the G-Sedan. That's not necessarily a good thing, depending on your automotive values.
Well I was in the same situation. Looking at a G37 or Maxima. First thing was G37 will change body style close to the end of the year. Second was Price, I got my Max fro 31,080 with Sport and Tech. The G37 (Sport + Navigation + Premium) would have been close to 37,000. Both after VPP Pricing. The 6000 difference does not make up for space and the stuff the Maxima comes up. I also had a 2003 G35 and I think it went into the dealer about 6-8 times a year. Over little things like Check Engine light, and had the dam CD changer replaced 5 times. Thank god the new Max with Tech is only single.
I also looked at both and I got a fully loaded Maxima and I'm loving it ( $39,400 sticker )
This after driving a 2008 335 sedan, for 2 1/2 years.
I had 5 mos payments left @ $645/mos and was at 45K miles ( my lease was 15/yr).
Was also looking to reduce my payments, times are tough!
Nissan paid remaining 5 mos of my BMW lease , and I got a 39 mos lease ( 15K/yr) and I'm paying $489/mos ( including tax) with $1200 upfront ( including 1st payment)
My BMW had 2 High Pressure Fuel Pumps replaced and broke down 3 times!!!!
Like I said, I'm loving the Maxima. It does everything well....and the electronics are a blast!

Yes, the Maxima does indeed give a slightly more cushy, comfortable freeway ride than the 'G'. But after I pump my Maxima tires to the 36 psi cold pressure I carry, the ride and handling reminds me very much of the 'G' I test drove about 18 months ago.
Yes, the 2011 Maxima 'S', 'SV' and 'SV-Premium' look similar to the '09 and '10, but the 2011 'SV-Sport' definitely looks different, and I think folks here will like it a lot. It is just now arriving at higher volume dealers, and will be at most dealers within a few weeks.
I heard "smoked headlights" and a darker grill... which is good, because the grill is one of the 7th gen's weaker features.
Should be worth a drive to one of my local dealerships to take a look-see.

Lets just say both are the same price tag of 34k. i get this price from the fact most maximas on lots i see at 34k+ and you can get a base model g35 sedan for that price as well. I'm trying to compare stock vs stock also for the most part...
Looks/Appearance: g35 > 7th gen (it's close but i give it to the g35)
Performance: g35 > 7th gen (13.8 vs. 14.5 in the 1/4 also it's offered as a manual which is obviously huge. also stillen said no FI plans. it took 7 years for the 5.5s to get a bolt on Fi kit and with the cvt..i don't think companies will be flocking to develop FI kits for it again i'm trying to stay stock vs stock...)
Trunk and 'Living Space': g35 < 7th gen (7th gen wins hands down imo)
Interior: g35 > 7th gen (it's close i know but i tip my hat to the g35 and yes i'v sat and ridden in both cars and they both have VERY nice interiors imo.)
Luxury: g35 > 7th gen (it's a luxury car vs a sedan with luxury car dreams. maybe it's not fair to throw this in as they are sold in/to different parts of the market. then again who doesn't want something luxurious? and you can still have cloth seats and a price tag of 34k for the maxima, thats not a luxury car...)
Modability: g35 > 7th gen (i know it's new but compare any gen maxima to the g35's list of available mods. The 4th gen might come close but thats irrelevant)
My conclusion:
The 7th gen is very or ties in looks, and the quality of the interior. It easily wins in interior space. However if pales in comparison in the luxury category and falls on its face in relating to performance, modability.
I was just curious to what made, or would make you, want to buy a 7th gen over a g35, as i would assume a person would have considered both as viable options to buy. This is meant as a friendly discussion i'm not trying to say anyone who bought a 7th gen made a wrong choice. they seem to be great cars so far. again it's just not the choice i would make because mainly i'm really into performance and modifying my rides so that has alot to do with it.
Personally i'd buy a G35.
edit: also the fact fully loaded and decked out they retail for 43k is ridiculous imo. no one is going to pay 43k for an 09 maxima your almost at 50k after tax tag and title. when your in the 40k and above price point your options for a better ride are so huge the maxima can't compete. one might say that even in the 35k and above a 7th gen has trouble keeping up with the competition that starts at a baseline of 35k.

Bot a 2010 Maxima Sport. This is our 3rd Nissan. 2005 Altima 2.5S, 2007 Altima 3.5 SE (Great Car) and now new Nissan Maxima Sport. We were pre approved form Nissan Financing so for month went back and forth from Nissan to Infinity dealers since they are both Nissan Financing. Prices were not much different so we could have bot the G37 or the Maxima. Yes Infinity is faster and has bit more standard feature but we choose the Maxima.
Maxima is a bigger car, wider by almost 4 inches. G37 felt so small inside, with Maxima you feel like you're driving a full size car while G37 feels like Honda Civic. G37 Body style is getting old already to me Maxima looks so much better. It comes with standard 18(upgrade to 19) inch rims G37 17(upgrade to 18) inch rims and they are ugly. CVT was also a big deal for me I love the CVT transmission feels like you're driving an electric car.
So far I love the car

Your post pretty much says it all. The Torgus post you corrected in your earlier post was way off base. Torgus said a loaded 7th gen Maxima retails for $43,000. I don't know what he is smoking. The Maxima with premium and Technology packages (most expensive combo) lists around $39,600, and sells for UNDER $35K. Carrying this further, most Atlanta dealers have the 'S' advertised for around $23,888.
Like you, when I sit in the G (and I have sat in virtually every year G for around a decade) it always seems cramped to me. Even elbow room seems limited. Torgus says the G styling is better. He would be advised to understand styling is strictly in the eye of the beholder, and I personally (just as you) prefer the Maxima's looks.
The G and Maxima are both excellent cars, but I GREATLY prefer the Maxima's styling, like my Nissan dealer better than my Infiniti dealer, prefer the CVT, and prefer FWD, so the only thing I had to decide was color.
In my initial drive of the g last night I gotta say I favor the max and its CVT. It just seems more responsive. G's controls feel nicer and I like some of the interior touches. Like the look of the max better. Both very similar in many ways.
Congrats on your purchase!

It is my hope that with the 3Gen G Sedan, Infiniti adds 2-3 inches in width so that it doesn't feel so cramped inside. I think they could do it without making the car too big. If I wanted that cramped in feeling, I'd just go down the road and get a 3-Series.
Figured my post below from another thread was relevant here.
Eh...not buying it. A well engineered CVT gives you the ability to consistently run the engine at the RPM where it produces the most torque. There is nothing non-sports car about this. I know purist would like to say that a sports car is defined by rear wheel drive but I don't buy into that. If I did I wouldn't have bought a Maxima. I've driven both....other than loosign the a__ end of the G when accelerating around corners and having the steering wheel wrenched out of your hand doing the same thing in a Maxima, I don't see a whole lot of difference. Accept the fact that you get less car for about the same money in the G and an interior the size of a civic.
Length comparison
G 182.2 in
M 194.7 in
Maxima 190.6
My bro in law owns the M37 and I've driven it many miles. It does have an incredible fit and finish but when you compare cabin/trunk space, fit/fitnish and performance/handling the Maxima is FAR better value than the M. Just wins hands down for the $$. I have the income to buy the M37 (and pay my mortgage), but went with the Maxima instead. Better value for a very similar vehicle.

This thread is comparing the wrong cars. This should be a comparison of the Maxima vs the M37. I've just finished a 39 month lease of a G35 Sport. Yes the G35 is a far superior performance car. But Maxima seems more related to the M series in size.

The g37 is sleek with superb handling. The alleged smallish interior doesn't bother me in the least. And Infiniti nailed the overall design. And I like their upscale dealerships. Also, The Nissan dealership left a lot to be desired.
As a rule when car shopping, I do not take the interior volume and divide it the cost of the to come up value per dollar. The maxima did not represent good value to me because of the three items mentioned above.
That doesn't mean I can't appreciate there is a demographic who finds the car suits their lifestyle.
Finally, on value, do you think people who buy ferraris believe they should have gotten an s2000 for 80% of the handling at 90% of the price?

the G is more comparable to smaller cars like IS, 3 series bmw, lexus IS, acura TSX.
the maxima is a full sized seden more comparable to the acura TL, infiniti M, bmw 5 series, lexus GS without the marketting gimmicks.

A grand Marquis is pretty roomy also. Some people do not shop on interior volume, bigger is not always better. A maxima may be comparable to a 5 series in room but obviously a ridiculous comparison in terms of performance.
So I looked at the maxima and said if I spend a few bucks more I get nicer looking car, rwd, more standard features, awd, hp, better handling and upscale dealerships.

Well, I like 7 Gen Maxima over any G35xS/G37xS sedan it looks better agressive and sportier. But, I would definetly take G37 coupe over a Maxima hands down. Funny thing is Maxima is faster than all of em ona straight run! haha. Except my Maxima is fully bolt on allready I leave them by more than 4 cars...
A maxima does not look more aggressive or sportier than a g. A maxima is not faster than a g37 in any run.
A gtm stage 2 on a g37 with 600whp will smoke your maxima with everything bolted on. Lol

If I wanted something fast I wouldn't have bought either lol ^^^I would have bought a sports car. I personally like the G but am so very tired of seeing them that's why I bought my max. I know damn near every single max around and there isn't many. All in all they both are nice cars
Ummm no The Max is in no way shape or form comparable to the 5 Series, or Lexus GS cmon bro. Those are 50-60k purpose built RWD/AWD sedans.
LOL I have raced G's before, they are faster, I have to admit that but not by much, I was messing around with a g37x the other nite, guy couldnt pull away if he wanted to. And how much does a GTM stage 2 cost??? The G37 w/o sport package does look extremley homosexual I wont lie about that. But I do like the car, its the douchebags who own them and think they are the holy grail that I despise

When it comes to mods people seem to find the money. Saw a utube video the other day where a gtm equipped g37 smoked a Lamborghini. I have the money for a stage 2, but why to get me killed in a crash. Have no plans to ever track the car.
But back on, the g and max although similar are targetting different segments. I think it's funny the max fans hate the look and style of the g, while the g fans like their choice better. It's all subjective.
