This is Just My Opinion.
I drove a 2011 G37X and I loved the car. That 328HP(Crank) is an excellent hit(acceleration) primarily due to the closely gear 7 speed transmission. The car was comfortable and firm for a luxury sedan.The Weight Distribution is great and has pretty much NO nose dive under heavy braking. The only reasons I did not get it was because the rear was too small for my expecting 5' ft wife who was tight in the rear And i wasnt beat for paying all that money (40K+). The acceleration was great though.
I immediately went to Nissan and i I drove the Max. Three things I DONT like about this car. Hard to find performance parts, the rear end is a little sluggish to get around corners, and the 290hp(Crank)
I'm coming from a Subaru Sti so Im a little knowledgeable in regards to Crank and Wheel horse power. If I was to put the G37(328HP) and the Max(290hp) on a Dyno, I am very sure the Max will make WHEEL horse power very similar to the G37. My reasoning, The G37 is RWD which means it has more parts for the power to get delivered to the ground which means it loses energy(power). The Max is FWD which means less Drive train lost(power).
So It is my belief, that with an intake, Y pipe, Catback, and a Tune. You will be making just as much if not MORE power than a G37. Not to mention the Max is lighter(like 80lbs). So my plan is those performance parts listed, lighter rims(18lbs each), and a bigger diameter rear sway bar and i just made the 4DSC even better.
Once again, this is just my opinion and my route i will be taking.

We have something in common, I also have a 5 year old Forester XT. Those things are fast, not as fast as the STI obviously.

Performance mods to me are just about money. As I said above for $7K I could get 600whp on the G37. However, I do have an 'x' as this is my daily driver and if you have seen the winters on the east coast the last few years....

The back of the G is fine for the family, the trunk is a little smallish, but every car has some type of compromise associated with it. You pick the compromises that matter the least.

Oh, yeah and at a past point in my life I had two Maximas. The 1996 m/y was probably the worse car I ever owned. In the shop every three months to fix the emission codes.

 

Some owners are douches, I get dirty looks fom G owners all the time. Yea its not worth to spend almost 10k, to have the GTM properly installed and then maintained, and if you dont know how to diagnose problems you'll be running out of money very very fast lol. I don hate the look and style of the G, I think its just not as agressive enough when its not Sport equipped. Sport equipped G's look amazing I can stare at them all day. Like you said its all subjective!

 

I travel through your "neck of the woods" very frequently, remind me not to look at any Maximas lest I be "labeled". j/k Some car owners though, and I somewhat agree with what you are trying to say, think their **** don't stink.

 

Trust me, I dont label people by what the drive, but rather how they act, there are just as many douches who drive 7 gen Maximas! I actually have an account on MYG37.com, and post there often all cool peoples, never had a problem with anyone. And at a local car meet I go to on Staten Island every Tuesday I see plenty of Infiniti owners, most are cool.

 

I get dirty looks but it's not so much from a certain type of car owner but from a certain age group. The older the guy and the more family-oriented his vehicle is (especially mini-vans and station-wagon looking things) I will get mean mugged like you wouldn't believe. The ones who try to race me are usually Altimas, G35's, VW TDI's (what?), and BMW's from 300 series to M. I'll occasionally try to give a head nod but 90% of the time people ignore it and stay hatin'

 

Just get the windows tinted, after getting that done, so many fewer looks

 

Interesting, in your other post in the Regular or Premium, you say you run 87, and yet you want more performance

 

he can add 4 turbos, it's still going to be FWD. Even acura has gone to AWD.

Who is going to tune the maxima? Osiris from UpRev is about the only legitmate flash tuner for nissan/inifniti. And I don't see the maxima listed on their site.

 

Exactly, I do run 87. After 10K i will be switching to 93 and thats exactly when i will start modding which i think is an excellent time to mod and everything is broken in. Btw, with a good tuner, i can still tune the car with extensive mods on 87 octane. Though, its not optimal it can be done. On another note, im already thinking of something else.
I dont know if i stated but im coming from a Subaru Sti so Im already thinking bigger injectors, cams, fuel pump and E85 tune. Not only for cheaper price but because it is a race gas at pump prices.
Of course since im new to the car, im trying to get my technical knowledge up and can only use what i learn on the forums and what i learned from Subaru's. im trying to find a Max tuner in my area.

 

And that seems to be the challange. Finding a Max tuner in my Area. I think the closest is over 100 miles away in CT.

 

Who is going to tune it? And with what flash software? You'd have to hard wire a UTEC, Emanage or Haltech and then have someone tune on top of that.

 

well that's what i have to find out. i just found out there really isn't any flash software. I really dont like Piggybacks but it looks like my only options. They have had clashes with the stock ECU after a while. For example, the stock ECU constantly changes with weather and over time, etc. But the UTEC stays the same and with the changing variables in stock ECU it acts really "weird". This is from my Subaru experience though. I dont have experience with Emanage or Haltech

THERE IS A REFLASH FOR OUR CAR, its called UPREV > http://www.uprev.com/
and the site has a list of tuners you could get this done.

what is uprev? its software that overrides the ECU from its stock settings to 4 different programable settings some of which are
1. Performance - best performance with the mods you have in your car
2. Economy - best fuel economy with the mods you have in your car
3. Vallet - when you vallet your car RPM's do not exceed 2,000

there are a few more modes but i dont recall as i spoke to the tuner many months ago

is it worth paying 500-600 for the tune? well if you just have the basic mods such as what is available now
-short ram
-pulley
-ypipe
-exhaust
personally to me its not

but if you have the mods i have which are
CAI, PULLEY, BLOCK OFF PLATES, HEADERS, YPIPE, EXHAUST then MAYBE but i still dont think it is (THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION) im not doing a all motor setup because if i was i would have cams then go for a tune, for those of you that dont know im going to be doing a 6MT swap very soon (then forced induction) as i had a little setback with the axle on my car from it being to low on these horrible streets of NYC lol

back on topic this "reflash" "chip" "tune" whatever u wanna call it, but it all basically means the same thing. IT IS FOR SOMEONE WHO IS COMFORTABLE WITH THE MODS THEY CURRENTLY HAVE ON THERE CAR AND THEY JUST WANNA ADD THE ICING ON THE CAKE TO GET THE MOST OUT OF IT.

me personally im just a HP junkie not a junkie in means of i want a 800wheel hp car im just a junkie in means of modding a car to the limit that no one else has...and the 7th gen is the perfect car for me to do it with....yeah a G37 is nice it got a bigger motor yada yada yada but companies ALRDY did turbo kits for it headers etc etc ....its NOT my kinda car and its not a small fraction of the price more ITS MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE because i got my car for $27,780 and i have the contract to prove it! yeah i got the base model but i dont need leather seats, panoramic roof, navi and all that junk when i want the lightest body maxima. Plus i got the kenwood excelion 9980HD which blows the stock navi away.

Keep this in mind for the infiniti guys who come romping in here saying the maxima sucks yeah you have a 3.7L motor but the VQ35 we have in our car isnt the average VQ35DE thats on the 5.5, 6th,& 6.5 Gen maximas its BETTER! EXTREMELY BETTER! and responds better to the mods. Plus who wants a outdated G35 body anyway?

my car looks better then any G3xS,T,U,V,...... whens the last time you went to a nissan/infiniti dealer and had the workers there taking pictures of your car? or whens the last time people pull you over asking you what kind of car is that giving you props.....HAPPENS TO ME EVERYYYYYYYYYYYY

One (A33B)5.5 genner tried it (not PnP, PITA< still ive him props), (A34)6th genners don't chime in on this site even though it is PnP, any (A35)7th genners?

 

its not PnP sorry I should have cleared this up .....its a DYNO tuned ecu reprogram reflash whatever u wanna call it .....we don't have BMW 335 to just plug something in for a extra 4psi

 

Ok, you're making me lose confidence in your knowledge.

1.) I'm VERY familiar with UpRev/Cipher/OSIRUS, so no need to tell me what it does. I was the second person to purchase Cipher when it came out for Z's and Titan's, and no one thought it would work for the A33B, but it did.

2.) What I need to know is if OSIRUS is compatible with your cars Consult interface plug, and if so, it is most likely PnP.

3.) We need someone to step up like SurraTT did and try and make OSIRUS work as he did for the A33B. BUT, for the A34, it is PnP since it has the same ECU as the Z33, but sadly no one has installed it yet though, very sad because it's simple PnP. SurraTT spent an enormous amount of time trying to convert the A34 ECU to the A33B. Whereas it just takes one person to buy it and plug it in, vs making a patch harness. Same goes for the A35.

4.) I didn't mean PnP as in ZOMMGG!!111 I plugged it in and now have eleventy billion moAr HP. No, I mean as in actually verifying it can communicate with your ECU without further modification, as Cipher does with the A33B/34, and as OSIRUS does with the A34.

 

like i said before I NEVER HAD IT DONE TO MY CAR SO HOW WOULD I KNOW HOW ITS IMPLEMENTED? for the 7th gen ppl who would like to do it they have the website and there is plenty of info on the site and they could find out for themselves by calling the tuners and setting an appointment...really no need for you to come here and say it worked for the Z no one thought it would work for the maxima yada yada yada but what u said wasn't really helpful at all.... so yeah thanks for your useless info! was awesome!

#3 is kind of cool, I wish my G37 had that feature stock.

Nobody is insulted. I don't happen to agree the Maxima looks better than the Infiniti, I think it's kind of bloated, while the G37 looks very athletic. But as I said in another thread it has a generally pleasing look.

The fact you can get an expensive tuning kit for the G37 but have 600whp is really cool. The Maxima is a sporty no matter what is done to it, it's limited by FWD. It's a large scale useful upscale family sedan and when you apply forced induction, you have all of the fwd issues with high horsepower.

I personally am not into a lot of mods, and had two Maximas. Nissan kind of lost their way with the Maxima for a while, but it's back.

The person who said that based on the interior volume only the Maxima doesn't compare to the G it compares to the M is kind of correct. In that vein the Maxima also compares to the Sonota, with the Sonota being much, much better value.

And finally I drive my car for me. My BMW had a unique color combo interior and exterior and I got stopped and complimented on it constantly. At the end of the day it's just a car.

 

everyone has there own opinions, yeah i wish cars come with vallet mode stock.....that would be pretty cool
i dont know what FWD limitation you are speaking about because i never saw a 600WHP Infiniti do 8-10 seconds down quarter mile like a FWD CIVIC could..... u need 600whp RWD to keep up with a 500-550whp FWD esp a infiniti.....just give it up its not a 370z

infiniti isnt a race car NEVER WAS, NEVER WILL BE. nissans always will be the sporty/race car of the group.....its ment to be a luxury car that could barley compete with a 335 lol

It's not a better car because better is in the eyes of the beholder, but it is a better sports sedan than the maxima.

If you believe a stock altima can smoke a stock g37 more power to you. You are right though none of these vehicles are race cars, but it's kind of cool you can get 600whp out of the v36 engine.

You are right about the 335 beating the pants off the g37. The 335 smokes just about everything, but who cares? I don't street race because I don't want to end up dead. But then again to get the same equipment level in the 335 you have to spend north of 50k.

And it's bimmer not Beemer, Beemer is the motorcycle.

the g37 is nice, but nissan infiniti is making massive profit margins off you.

20 percent of the mark up is based just on the branding marketing hype, the car itself without the marketing is worth no more than 25-26k brand new. It's more like a high end altima with a 3.7 liter engine.

I'm okay with everything you say. At the end of the day I have a rwd, upscale, entry level sports sedan. What you say is true and is applicable to every luxury brand manufacturer out there.

Only the purchaser can decide what car is right for them.

 

i got my car for a little under 28K so i feel like i got a awesome deal on a BRAND NEW car ....if itt comes to the point where i was to buy a BRAND NEW g37 i rather get so many other cars like for instance 370z, 335is, 2012 Mustang GT 5.0, Subaru STI, EVO X, i could keep going.

These infiniti guys just have this egotistical thing that they have a supercar that smokes the maxima.....but in actuality i have about 350-370 HP CRANK with all my mods minus the least amount of drivetrain loss having FWD and my car handling is ridiculous considering i have FULL SUSPENSION upgrade.

For whatever reason you got a good deal. For all I know there were 5000 miles on the odo or you knew the owner of the dealership or whatever.

I could afford the vehicle and this is the vehicle I wanted. You and I are in different age brackets, and I don't know if you are mad you couldn't get the Infiniti but this is not ego, it's luxury. I dont want boy racer cars like the evo. The only other vehicle I would have considered is the BMW. Mustang? Fast but thats it.
