You'd need to dismantle the entire IP and waterfall section. Not for the faint of heart! Unless you are a audio pro or willing to pay big $$ to one, I'd suggest giving it up. Remember that all the electronics are integrated on the A36, so even if you do succeed in replacing it, there may be other complications.

Your OP asks if anyone has tried to remove the BOSE radio, so more details would have helped. You'll still need to dismantle the waterfall IP to get to the back of the stereo unit. The question should be: have you checked to see whether the BOSE system will accept power from an outside source (ie. amp)? Past Maximas equipped with BOSE systems were not so easily modded.

I know that i need to dismantle the waterfall IP to get to the back of the stereo unit, BUT the question is HOW? that is all i want to know. how can I remove it? as there isn't any screw for me to remove as far as i can tell. I have the service manual and still not able to get it out as it does show the step to take it out.

If you're looking for a DIY, I doubt any new Maxima owners have tried what you propose. I can say that when removing a BOSE headunit from a 350Z, you started by removing the center stack, center console and waterfall IP. It took a lot of time, as these interiors are built with interlocking layers.

The headunits usually have mild steel mounts that are bolted into the sides of the framework that makes up the IP. Then, it's a matter of disconnecting all the antenna, speaker and power connections to extract it. Since you have an A36 service manual, there may be a schematic to show how it's set up.

Good luck- maybe someone else has other suggestions, but I doubt it...

Time to dig in and be the guinea pig! Remember to take pics, that's why we are all here to learn and share. I know for the 6th gen, once you remove the shift plate you see screws and then just work your way up removing parts...

anybody thought to check with crutchfield ? they usually have schematics. may cost you a couple bucks but probably less than a new dash piece if you break it.

Ill step up to be the guinea pig, i should be getting the peref electronics IPOD integration on Monday or Tuesday. I would think that getting to the back of the stereo wll be like the one on my old 05 murano ( top to bottom, screen, then radio ) I dont have the Nav system obviously so i should have less crap to deal with. Ill post a detailed procedure and any pics i can. Also,
im sure we could get ahold of peripheral electronics for any assistance, since they had to do this already to test there IPOD and HD radio integration.

OK guys, just removed the Radio from the Max, took me 10 minutes! No pics so follow along....( i do NOT have Nav System )
Tools = 1. phillips head 2. Butter Knife/ Skinny flat head

1) Remove plastic area around Info screen/ Nav screen + Fan/AC controls, Push the Passenger airbag light back at the same time, it will pop out. Disconnect all wire harness EXCEPT the Airbag one.
2) Remove the 4 Phillips head screws ( 2 black, 2 silver. if you need to take out the info screen, then remove the top 2 screws as well ).
3) Pop out the bottom plastic pice under the Radio body ( NOT the cup holder area ) and remove 2 Philips head screws. ( LOOK, they are back there )
4) Pull out the Radio and BAM! your done.
Hope this helps, im sorry about not having pic's, but this is very straight forward, best of luck to all.

Rik.

that is where i ran into a problem. i try to remove this piece but can seem to get it out. do you have to pry it out and does it requires lot of force to pry it out?
how many clips are there? and where is the clips and type of clip it used. i was hoping to see so pix of that piece to see the location of the clip and clip type so that i can get that plastic piece out. i have color screen with Bose system and climate control so it's a little different at the bottom but that should be matter as long as i can get that plastic piece around the screen off. i guess i have a want for someone to post some picture.

WRONG

hahaha...this is exactly what i did at nissan, lets see if i am of assistance.
1. remove the big peice from around the navi screen. be careful when doing so but it does take some force. try using a butter knife wrapped in tape.once you can grap it on both sides it should pop out with a lil force be sure to unplug the electrical connections in the back

2. remove the plastic piece under the radio, it pops out with the same method as above
3. remove the 4 screws holding the radio in place.
4. pull it out, beware though there are a ****ing bunch of wires connected into that radio if you have the top of the line radio with xm and navi

if you need pics i can try and put something together

You need to use a little force, but not too much, the Hazard light button does not have a lot of cord behind it, and the Passenger Air Bag light will pop out, just push on it when you pop out the bottom corner of the screen area. If you turn your car on without the Air bag light plugged in, you will trip a code and have a SRS light on the dash. my 06 Alti SER did the same thing. This whole thing is really simple, just swallow your fear and man up to the plate. I just finished installing the Peripheral Elec. PXAMG, it is awesome!!

it all seems a waste, you can't play dvd from the console unit, you can't stream it from your ipod with out the aux cable and even then you can't control the play back anyway. if you get a small dvd player, you can't control that either. wow i can change the navi and find other info while driving witch does not give you much info anyways... sorry if i am so wrong but all that trouble.. they should of just unlocked it from the start

there is another thread that has to do with the gps while driving. You can play movies and use the gps while driving with the adapter that KPierson technologies has made.
