Blu-ray

With the advancement of Blu-ray, how long do you think it will take for car makers and Nissan to add Blu-ray media to their car options?

considering that blue-ray hasn't even started to pick up for audio, it will be a loooooongggg time.

No point to it really, just grab an iPod and hook that up

It will take years for them to add it as an option. As far as I am aware they dont even have a viable protable Blu-ray player. Also, the only application right now they would use it for is Navigation and it is cheaper for them to use a Hard Drive then it would be to use a Blu-Ray disk.

You also have to think, with the samll sizes of screens people are not going to notice the difference between Blu-ray and a DVD. The the screens that are 10" and less the DVDs low resolution doesnt factor as much as it would with a 52"+ screen.

Even though Blu-ray has advanced it is FAR from being mainstream and yes I have had Blu-ray AND HD DVD. So no I am not a hater, just a realist. The cost\profit margins just are not there for automakers to add options like this. Until the high end car makers start adding it as an option I dont think any of the "regular" makers are even going to look at it.

You can get regular DVD players for $30, and regular DVD isn't even a common option on new cars. You have to pay $2000 plus to get DVD because you usually have to opt for the NAV or entertainment system. I always thought it would be cool to make a DVD with MP3 files to play in the car. You could fit a 1000 songs on a DVD. But, like Xeross said you could always hook up a IPOD.

Maybe 5 or so years?

HD video won't make a difference on a small screen, but the storage capacity may make it useful.

Of course it may go the way of DVD-Audio and SACD.
