Actually, the biggest flaw in the Max's system is the lack of MID's - By your analysis, thats all we should be getting! LOL. As I have said before, for most people this system will perform beautifully... to me, it could use some tweaking...

My problem with this system is the actual placement of the door speakers. Is not possible to raise to speakers up so that the sound does not goes directly into the floorboard, or into your leg if someone is sitting by either door. I think they should also add some sort of tweeter for "highs" to the rear door speakers also. Just a thought.

I personally think mine is great. I drive with the roof open (dual panel) and back windows down, which generates plenty of wind noise and I have no problem hearing my music and the stereo isn't even turned way up.

Bose Music Box Limitations

First post for me from here in beautiful Ottawa, Canada. Just got our new Maxima Premium + Navi last week. Still going through the books but WRT the Music Box. 9.3 Gb of space for music. Unless I am wrong, given that you cannot download MP3s to the Box, and your average song in CDA format is about 40Mb, are you effectively limited to about 200 songs on the Music Box? Seems a bit light. I really get the feeling that I am missing something here.

I just checked my Music Box. I have 351 songs on it and it only using about 10% of the available space on the hard drive.

....So Basically when you record a cd it rips the tracks into MP3s and stores them on hard drive.

The reason you can not directly load any MP3s into the hard drive from another source or the CF card is most likely a DRM issue. Nissan does not want the Music Box to be used as a pirating tool. By only recording from a CD, it insures that you do own the music that you are loading on the drive. Granted, we can all boot-leg music off the internet and burn an audio cd, but the restrictions to the music box are enough to satisfy Nissan's legal department requirements.

Thanks Sam, After looking at the manual again last night I figured some kind of ripping and compression was going on. Thinking about getting a Delkin adapter for the CF system that will let me use SD cards as well. New Apple store just opened in Ottawa so will go look for an adapter that lets me charge my iPod as well. This Forum is going to be a gold mine.

2009-2010 Bose Inconsistency

Some people have eluded to it on here but I wanted to check to make sure my Bose system is working properly but it can't be, here is the situation;

If your sitting in the front seats the Bose experience is absolutely wonderful in regards to clarity, sound, volume, bass, etc but all that changes when you sit in the back seats; when sitting in the back, the radio/CDs etc all sound low and distant, almost as if the radio isn't barely on and you can hardly hear anything

I played around with the balance setting and put the audio completely to the rear to see what was going on and I was surprised to find out that only low audio/sound comes out of the speakers on each rear door and absolutely NO AUDIO or SOUND was coming out of the two massive rear speakers in the rear window housing?? my Nissan told me that the speakers in the rear window are for base and tone only and I told them that this couldn't be right; I've never had a car in my life not have audio sound coming out of the rear speakers in the rear window because those are the speakers closest to the rear passengers heads

If you switch the balance from the 50/50 mix of front/rear to rear completely, without adjusting the volume, the radio sounds so low it almost seems it shuts off; this is the reason why the audio experience in the rear of the car sucks so much, very little audio is coming out of the rear doors speakers near the person's feet and no audio coming out of the rear speakers near the rear passengers head in the window housing

Is this how the Bose system for the four rear speakers are suppose to work in the Maxima? because if it does, this just plain sucks and pray your sitting in the front seats when listening to the audio system!!!

I have noticed this too. No audio comes out of the rear speakers only bass does.

ah man, if your Max does this then that means it must be designed this way; man this really sucks big time!!! oh well, at least I guess something good out of it is that if you have rear passengers its easier for you to talk to them and vice versa

Don't get me wrong, the Bose experience if your sitting in the front seats is absolutely wonderful, but it is absolutely atrocious if your sitting in the rear seats!

I'm wondering if you have the premium package and someone fiddled with the rear seat audio controls?

A long shot - just an idea.

All the SVs have the nine speaker systems with dual subwoofers.

I too have the Bose system in my Sport + Tech and it sounds good to me but not great. The one thing I think they need to add is the ability to have independent bass and treble settings for each source (ipod, music box, CD, FM, SAT). This would eliminate for me the problem I have with the way SAT radio sounds.

To me SAT radio sounds really flat and lacking in definition so I have to turn up the treble and bass for SAT but then have to turn it back down for everything else. The SAT radio almost sounds like a overly compressed MP3. Since SAT radio is digital you would think that the sound quality would be better than FM.

The Bose in my wife's Max is good but we both think the Rockford Fosgate in my 08 Titan Pro4X is better.

Subaru stereo = crappy (I have owned 2 Subaru's)

Acura ELS system = incredible! Not sure what your talking about here as the only factory system I have ever heard to surpass this is Mark Levinson on Lexus...

Agreed, in fact the ELS system has gotten even better in the last two years, my 08 TL as it but only with 8 speakers, the 10 TSX and 10 TL have it with 10 speakers and I've been in them, the system is even better than mine

So is there a hack to bypass this? Can I listen to MP3's on a USB thumbdrive without ripping them to the harsd drive?

The 6x9's in the back will not produce any treble or mids, and therefore may seem to not be working, but I am sure they are... Bass frequecies tend to be omnidirectional, meaning you can hear (and feel) them from any position - (Think about a subwoofer in your home theater set up - you can place the sub anywhere in the room, and the sound and bass output is the same) - while mids and high tend to be directional - meaning if something blocks them, or reflects the sound, it will effect how you hear it.

A great example of this is the front sound stage of the car - From the Driver and Passenger seat, the highs (treble) and mids (vocals) are crisp and loud (they border on "bright", or too loud, in my opinion). This is because the center channel and tweeters directional sound "reflects" off the windshield towards the driver and front passenger, making it more apparent where it comes from.

In the rear, the speakers are 6 1/2 inchers in the rear doors and the two subs in the back, so the sound is already bassy to begin with back there. The smaller door speakers (again, which in my opinion should have been a set of components (mid-bass/tweeter combo)) are working harder to produce any high frequencies, since they are bombarded by carpet, sound deadening and upolstry/leather all of which are materials that KILL upper frequencies.

The speaker layout in the BOSE equipped max is as follows:

DASH:
Left Tweeter - Center Speaker - Right Tweeter

LOWER FRONT DOORS
Left Full Range - Right Full Range

LOWER REAR DOORS
Left Full Range - Right Full Range

REAR DECK
Left "Subwoofer" - Right "Subwoofer"

TOTAL = 9 Speakers

I use quotes around "Subwoofer", because, while 6x9's generally have great bass output, there is no such thing a 6x9 subwoofer. REAL subwoofers require LOTS of power, and are generally Round or Square, and are at LEAST 8" in Diameter. One 8" or 10" Sub in the rear deck would have made a better choice than the two 6x9's.

WHEW.... All that having been said, if you want to know if your 6x9's are working, dig up the service manual link on this site, and take off the upper cover inside the trunk (super easy, you'll have it off in 5 min, just be gentle with the velcro on the left and right corners) and play some bassy music (hip hop, dance, whatever) and climb inside the trunk with a flash light or drop light - you should be able to see the underside of the speakers moving with the bass. You can also see the speaker connectors here too, so if they don't seem to be working, look to see if there is anything connected to them (it should be pretty obvious, as the speakers are somewhat isolated by themselves)

Hope this adds some insight and help. In the end, that's why I added my Basslink II - I am a DJ, and I like to feel my music, and the 6x9's just weren't cuttin it.

Good luck!
thank you sir, you seems to know what you are talking about. This is so informative
could you confirm that the bose system in the max is capable of producing 320 watts as mentioned by one of the members here... thank you again and keep up the good posts

The Music Box is kind of silly at only 9 GB. The iPod is the way to go with all of the room you can get on a Classic one of those.

any thoughts guys???
I love this system. Its great and the bass is perfectly tuned with no excess of it. After blasting music for like 5 mins your hearing goes worse for few mins though

I love the Bose system it sounds better than any of my previous cars. I play mostly my music box because I use the I-pod in the gym and don't want to transfer it back and forth. From a cost / benefit perspective I can not justify replacing a good system with a slightly better one.

Bose stereo

My 2009 had a stereo that was Bose in label only. It sounded like a weak Nissan stereo. I was unhappy, and it forced me to listen to talk radio.

We just traded for a 2012 and . . . . all is forgiven!

FM sound great. XM sounds pretty good. iPod sounds tremendous. I haven't loaded CDs yet on the hard drive, but I suspect the bugs have been worked out.

I'm happy now. And listening to music, not talk radio.

I totally agree. A treble and bass **** adjustment is rather pathetic when you get up in this realm. I would have even been ok with a dozen preset sound curves for different styles of music.

That would've been nice. Also seperate EQ controls for each source too.
